Security Drone posted:My current cat is 7 years old, and has lived alone for like the last 4 of those years. she was pretty playful with my ex's cat, but the last time someone brought an animal over she was totally freaking out . I just read the cat thread that was like 'If you don't have two cats, you're a horrible monster' and I didn't realize how important a second cat around might be. Is it too late? Is my cat a hermit doomed never to have another cat friend again? what sort of cat breeds go well with gray american short hair cats w/ dark stripes? Everyone and Mr. Potato have the color coordination down pat, so let's back up to your earlier question(s). It's not too late, probably. If it is too late, it was always too late because of your old cat's personality. I've got a 12 year old. For the first 7 years of her life, she was in a multi-cat household. For the next four years, she lived a single cat life and was pretty goddamn happy about it (and so was I). Last February, I adopted a second adult cat. Now the 12 year old and this miss new booty are buddies and tight as hell. So it's not impossible. If you do go down that road, get an older adult cat rather than a kitten or yearling. Your mature cat will get along better, or at least enter into a mutual ignore treaty with, an older cat closer in age with her. Depending on their mutual chemistry, it may take a week or months before the assholes get along. Mine were making piles on like week two even after we failed at doing a slow introduction. (A cat will try to escape a closed room at all costs.)
