The nice thing about Samsungs is the way they disable all of the syncing features by default so you can still lose your data like it's the 90s. It were cheap. And it runs marshmallow, syncs nice contacts and such pretty well.

Sarnsung SS certainly didn't offer to update my poor phone it actually kind of hosed up the default drivers Windows was using without issue so now the phone randomly loses file transfer abilities when plugged in even though it's been uninstalled from my laptop and phone.

I mean it's made by china, not a bastion of privacy protections

I hate blindly hating chinese software but somehow that just creeps up on me, must be getting old. There's a firewall program that adblocks by country or app and it recommends full blocking Iran, North Korea ya know the "axis of evil" and so on and so forth and will tell you in no uncertain terms which of your apps are phoning home and to what country and my favorite file manager (which you can get to tell on itself for the lols) is one of these that will not stop communicating with a chinese server. It's probably not too dastardly or nefarious and I let the thing have my dropbox creds because well, it's actually the best at what it does and it's not a critical thing but it still worries me some.

edit: also, for what it's worth, I shopped around for weeks. It's entirely possible that I was looking in the wrong place.

The droid I have is free with a year's worth of Tracfone service. You can get it from walmart or hsn.com.
