1. Barakamon I was late to the party on this one, but it was a really nice heartwarming comedy that is basically the closest we'll get to a Yotsuba anime. 2. Gundam Build Fighters A way too effective toy commercial with a really rad soundtrack. Also has some of the best Gundam action in a long time. 3. Ping Pong This was already a pretty decent coming of age story in manga form, but Yuasa fleshes out the characters a bit more, while also adding his own brand of animation into the mix. 4. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Just a really funny show in general, poking fun at both manga writing as well as shoujo cliches. 5. Space Dandy Fun experimental show with great animation all around, blending a lot of Western humor with weirder takes in space. Honorable Mentions Mushishi probably should be in the list, but honestly it's season 2 of one of the best anime all around, this should be implicit already. Hunter x Hunter and Space Brothers should also get a mention, since the only reason they don't get a mention is due to being long runners. Space Brothers has its padding problems admittedly, but it's a really good premise that's different from the norm and going to space is rad. Hunter x Hunter, we finally get an animated Chimera Ant arc and Ging getting punched in the face, what's not to love? Shingeki no Bahamut is a surprising anomaly when a game company of a phone card game decides to dump a lot of money onto some animators and asks them to go crazy. Kill la Kill I still think was a pretty fun show overall, but it obviously has its issues.
