Plus by the end of the first season, it's revealed that the big bad guy's super robot somehow has all of the super robot gimmick features that the protagonists had encountered earlier. Yet despite being menacing at first, super robot still managed to get beaten down and wrecked by multiple grunt mechs because the pilots already knew how to counter and mitigate those gimmicks. It was glorious.
