As an old man (30) who grew up with a Commodore 64 a couple years before he got a Nintendo, it's probably the C-64 port of Defender of the Crown.

To a little kid who was an early reader and such it had everything. Strategic placement of troops, the history/mythos of Robin Hood, the rescuing of the kidnapped heiress. Even though it's a really simplistic game there's such a sentimental attachment that I still enjoy playing it for a few minutes every now and then for nostalgia's sake. The same goes for the original Sid Meier's Pirates! (exclamation point included).

A couple years later the old TSR/SSI Gold Box AD&D games like Pool of Radiance would take that place as well.
