Basically they're heavy cruisers from a world where the treaties never happened and the size race happened after wwi as well as before. Not a match for a bb or bc, but they'd slam dunk cruisers and dds. Battlecruisers weren't armored to battleship standard either though (with a few late german outliers), they were *armed* to BB standard though. The difference between a CB, BC and Fast BB can be pretty small depending on which era you pick from though.
