But how would WarGaming make any money? I broke down and bought a Tier 8 premium (IS 6); mostly because I eschewed getting a new to me motorcycle and wanted a consolation prize. As a sub 700 game player, it's easy to make stupid mistakes and, to me, a lot of tanks play really differently, so switching around will tend to hurt my performance.

It's basically what Ensign said: total games played rounded to the nearest 1k, WN8*, winrate. The values are color coded based on the scale chosen for that particular XVM config, but generally they go red-orange-yellow-green-blue-purple from bad to great. *There's a full WN8 value, typically a 3-or-4-digit number, but occasionally two or even one digit, which usually indicates a bot; then there's a 2-digit short form, which may or may not be percentile. Interested in improving your stats? For best results, I recommend getting gud.

Thanks for the tips on reading the stats. Only after posting did I realize how red my team was. We got unbelievably trounced in that match.

For getting gud, is it smarter to stick with, say one Tier V or Tier VI tank, or perhaps play only one type of tank like mediums? I tended to jump from heavy to TD to light kind of as I felt like it, but playing a map in a TD or in a medium could be very different. Right now I'm doing just one class of tank in an evening so yesterday it was all mediums.

For the new missions, does one have to do all of them to get the ~free~ tank will just completing lights or mediums or whatever suffice?

Also, is it a good assumption that this guy is a reroll? One type and one country his whole career?

He was giving me crap for ramming my Luchs into an arty with both of us dying in the process. (I got the eye for eye award for it too).

Although I'm not even over 1000 battles and I suck, I tend to like the T-34-85. I seem to be able to pen well, even shooting regular AP and it's not too uncommon for me to break 1000 in damage with it. It seems to have the right balance of mobility, pen, and dpm. Armor and gun depression isn't great, but the turret will bounce some stuff, and I'm still learning the maps anyhow.

One thing I've been doing is just waiting for a couple of minutes to see where people go and how the match develops.

Go for it. Someone said easy floor, tough ceiling and that's true. As a new player w/ less than a 1000 games, here's some things I've learned through trial and error:

- Don't rush in. I did that a poo poo ton in my first games. Rush like mad, get one or two shots off and then die. Wait and watch, look at the mini-map and make it bigger ("+" key). See where the other players go, where the enemies pop up and then make a decision.
- Stay under cover (rocks, terrain, non-destructible buildings). Some maps have destructible buildings others don't.
- Don't effing stop out in the open so you can take a potshot at someone and then get raped by five opposing players. I pulled that stupid stunt more times than I can count. Don't be out in the open, unless it's the end of a match and your side is winning; move from cover to cover.
- Try your best not to tunnel vision. Keep glancing at the minimap to see if you're getting flanked.

Also, I have to get on goon TS. I'm a pubbie clan that a good RL friend is in. The other pubbies are okay, but there's very little teaching or guiding of newer players which is a bit frustrating.

The T-44 route is not bad, I'm in the midst of it. I suggest that from the 34-85 you get the KV-13, then the T-43 as a cheap side-grade. It's a bit more expensive than the T-43 alone, but making the IS line available for cheap is well worth it, even if you don't start on it now.

The thing that annoys me most about the campaign missions is you need to do them in every type of tank. You can only skip a type of tank if you do the secondary conditions for every single mission for the other four types.

I don't want to play arty and they shouldn't try to make me do it. I don't even care about the reward tank very much but I'd like to unlock the other campaigns for the silver.

I think I've given up on missions for that reason. I really don't like playing arty and grinding the secondary conditions for every other tank class isn't worth the free premiums. On the receiving side, I don't get too worked up. I try not to be spotted or stick to cover. Still, on maps like el Harruf when a well placed arty round takes out two tanks and damages a third it's a kick in the nuts.

I'm still new, but it seems like certain maps become campfests more than others, arty or no.

I had a really fun game the day before yesterday, a real rarity where a pub team was quite good and played as a team. Nobody camped or just hung out at the spawn. We were outnumbered in heavies 8-5 and held the hill on Fiery Salient long enough for our mediums and td's to overrun their mediums and td's and sweep around to pick off the two wounded heavies we didn't manage to kill. I was so surprised and the game was very fun.

Thanks for the replies on getting better. So far, I've been doing a lot of reading (all my bathroom reading) on the wiki and other guides. I've also been watching reviews by the Mighty Jingles. I have been learning weakspots, but still mostly clueless on the options for a tank's gun when they're on an enemy's tank. I do use consumables, and thankfully keep them bound to the same keys on every tank.

I think where I'm failing is jumping from tank to tank when I play. I have a bunch of different trees open and rush from tank to tank trying to get the x2 daily bonus on them all. I should really be focusing on one or two tanks in an evening. I'm also going to stop heading back to the garage when I die unless it's a team of complete shitters.
