What does everyone have planned for the final game they'll play this year? I'll probably just choose something arbitrarily on New Year's Eve.

Mine was bayo 2

I finished bayo 2 on 2nd climax and it felt easier than bayo 1 on normal, I'm playing through third climax now but I already have the upgrades and stuff. Should've jumped straight into 3rd

Mario Kart 8 is a good game that would have been great if it had, like, twice the amount of tracks. Me and my friends gathered for a brews/pizza/MK8 night when the game first game out and ran out of tracks we hadn't already played surprisngly quickly.

Probably not a realistic ask considering the amount of attention put into each track, but the internet isn't for realistic expectations.

The DLC is adding like, 16 tracks total I think?

But yeah if you just got a Wii U get:

Bayonetta 2
Super Mario 3D World
Smash Bros

You know I remember when I first got the Wii with Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 and some other stuff I was like "Wow, this is the best console ever!" And then several years later my Wii was unplugged and sitting in a box. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with the Wii U because I am currently having so, so much fun with it.

That's probably going to happen surely? Things get older and have less interesting new stuff. Unless you are a big retro person.

There's a difference between the way consoles usually get older and have less interesting new stuff, and the nosedive off a cliff the Wii took

The Wii didn't have a lot of 3rd party support outside of shovelware minigame collections because it was both underpowered compared to its competitors and was built around a gimmicky control scheme that not even Nintendo was able to really take advantage of, and both of those are still true for the WiiU. The big difference this time is that they're letting more third-party devs use Nintendo IPs to try and pad out their library but on the other hand Nintendo is still figuring out how to work in HD which is why the first two years of the WiiU were such a wasteland as they shuffled their teams around and delayed games in the name of getting announced titles out the door on time.

I dunno my favorite experiences on Wii U have been gimmick free. You can play all the best games with the Pro controller which is more or less an Xbox controller, the tablet isn't a requirement at all.

Also there are actually Wii U games that currently look great, Wii games imo instantly looked like poo poo the moment you got an HD TV.

Cuz taking your enemies souls into weapons like mega man is cool, and combining them like Gunstar Heroes is also cool

Also I really like the setting and art style and all that better than bastion so far, but I also thought Bastion was very overrated

i had a roommate who owned a PS3 and he played a lot of valkyria chronicles and whenever they switched to the enemy side we'd all sing ENEMY PHASE! ENEMY PHASE! ENEMY PHASE! to the tune of the music. one guy also played captain drake treasure tracker (the original one). and the fast forward feature let you listen while you were playing things at times 8 speed so when we binge watched shows, we watched the theme song and often it was improved. i am happy he owned a playstation 3 but i don't think i would have purchased one. thanks for listening to my story.

Edit: I didn't like the fighting in guacamelee that much but the game all around was really good

Some other Wii stuff that's worth playing:
* Madworld
* No More Heroes 1/2

I have these, don't bother honestly. It's 100% style over substance, you can get the same effect watching the whole thing on Youtube. No More Heroes 1 has one of my favorite stories in a game but the actual game part sucks

Edit: Also the story in NMH2 is worse/more rushed, and they fixed some minor annoyances with the gameplay but it's not good enough to be worth it

Sounds like someone has trouble with the simplest, best motion controls from the original wii. NMH owns, play it.

No trouble, it's just fun for about 1/4th of the games runtime

The fighting gameplay is shallow as gently caress, just mash A until it's time to press B for a finisher. Sometimes you dodge.
