I tried watching a couple of episodes and never really 'got it'. I might be missing something, but it just seemed boring and predictable to me, and the jokes weren't funny enough to offset that.

I don't know about the show, but in the original manga there was a minor issue where they never actually explain where the parasites come from in the first place. They just kind of show up and the parasites themselves don't know either.

It's in the new series, but they play it for drama. The parasites don't know where they came from which ends up as a driving factor for a few of the people in the cast. Who am I? Where did I come from and why am I here? Am I an alien, an evolved species or a creation?

And then there's those who just eat some heads. See above.

I saw it on Crunchyroll and it's a definite recommend. Great series.
