Lab are more likely to just try to govern in a minority government in that situation.

Would Labour rather let the Tories in than make a deal with the SNP? Do they hate them that much?

If it were on the table it would be the end of the Scottish Labour party but it is unlikely the SNP would want to go into coalition anyway. The Lib Dems don't paint a rosy picture of how that ends for the junior partner. Also given how much the SNP have gained from Tory rule it is likely more in their interests to say they'd like to support Labour in Westminster but they were unwilling to give Scotland what it deserves (and let's face it whatever Labour gave Scotland wouldn't be enough for Nationalists) thus painting themselves as the only alternative to the Tories for Scotland. Even if the SNP were to agree to a coalition they would be able to pull out of coalition at any point largely risk free for the same reason and so Labour simply wouldn't be able to trust then as coalition partners.

There's little benefit for either side and considerable benefit for the SNP in not joining with Labour as long as they can spin it as being Labour's fault.

An outright coalition between Labour and the SNP is very unlikely, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got a supply and confidence arrangement...

I wouldn't be surprised at a Lab-lib coalition. It's unlikely that any of the main three parties are going to get an overwhelming majority this election.

Yeah, lib-dems pretty much no chance on their own...a con-lab then, perhaps? Unlikely, but all I can guess, is that whatever's gonna happen, it's not going to be pretty, and we're going to be pretty hosed over by regressive policies either way.

I'm not so sure, it seems to make sense but I think the tories probably have the most animosity towards UKIP since UKIP were essetially created to split the tories in some toffish revenge/moneymaking scheme.
Also they're not subtle enough, they draw attention to how racist and backwards the tory base is.

On the other hand, Tories would see it as a means to hang onto power, AND they'd have a convenient patsy when any of their policies are unpopular.

Yes. Scottish Labour have a policy of not backing any SNP motion, even if it's on an issue where both parties agree.

On that note, here's a roundup of the final polls of the year: http://www2.politicalbetting.com/in...anilla-comments

The mean Con -> Lab swing is just over 5%, which would mean substantial Labour majorities in England and Wales, and possibly an outright majority nationally even with the SNP surge accounted for.

Oh, I forgot an important factor. If Labour presses this policy as one of their main objectives, they'll win an unprecedented majority.

They tried that in 1974. It ended in a second election six months later, which lead to a very slim minority which was whittled down over five years, which lead to Thatcherism.

If Labour wins a minority this time around and they refuse to go into coalition (particularly with the SNP) the inevitable second election would skip straight to Thatcherism.

e: also, Ed is not charismatic enough to win the debates, and while Cameron isn't exactly the Smiler he'll come off a fuckton more charismatic than Ed or Clegg, so Labour's chances of a majority are kinda screwed unless he goes into them with the charisma of Hitler and the policies of Bevahahahahahaha no they're screwed

More than a rumour, really. He won't take Charles because of the history, and he won't take Arthur because it's a bit egotistical and ripe for attack. That leaves Philip or George. Of the two, he's much more likely to commemorate his grandfather than his father.
