Mike Baird must be worried, Newman didn't lose this on his own. I mean, no way will the Libs lose here in NSW, but it may be too close for comfort for him. It will be the real barometer for Federal Lib hate.

Tony's toast. No way big business is going to allow him to lose THREE state premiers. Vote on Tuesday, maybe Thursday.

THE polls point to a nightmarish election result tonight. A great reforming Premier may be thrown to the lions because some Queensland voters don’t like the way he holds his jaw. Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, as Cicero reflected before he was branded an enemy of Rome, hunted down and decapitated. Perhaps Campbell Newman, like Cicero, didn’t read the wind until it was too late. Or perhaps he will win, providing the history books with a great survival story. What you need to know about the Queensland election As his opponents plot Newman’s political demise, a gang of five Labor heavyweights are leading the charge to return Labor to an undeserved victory in Queensland. Tragically, they are the same gang of five who held cabinet posts in the Beattie-Bligh era and therefore must share responsibility for the economic pain inflicted on Queenslanders. They must be hoping the electorate has a short memory. The gang of five were members of governments which squandered billions of taxpayer dollars on botched hospital projects, the payroll disaster, the flawed water grid and the failed desalination plant. They are the members who did deals to favour unionists in the bloated public service. They were the members who left a crippling debt. Now these same people want another shot. Come on down Cameron Dick, Kate Jones, Stirling Hinchliffe, Kerry Shine and Annastacia Palaszczuk. Dick, who is poised to win the seat of Woodridge, was variously the attorney-general, minister for industrial relations and minister for education from 2009 to 2012 before losing his previous seat in the Newman landslide. Dick is a barrister who read international law at Cambridge and he wants to oust fellow lawyer Palaszczuk. The Labor leader was minister for disability services, multicultural affairs and transport in the Labor years. Hinchliffe, tipped to win the safe Labor seat of Sandgate, was minister for infrastructure and planning, employment, skills and mining. Another lawyer, Shine was attorney-general and minister for natural resources and water. He will be contesting the seat of Toowoomba North. All five are recycled candidates. Add to that list union organiser and former MLA Grace Grace (Brisbane Central), former senator and unionist Mark Furner (Ferny Grove) and Redcliffe sitting member Yvette D’Ath, a former federal member and unionist. No fewer than 34 out of 89 of Labor’s preselected candidates are either previous members of parliament or previous candidates at state, federal or council level. The big danger for Queensland today is that the ALP will be propelled to victory on a protest vote. Not even Labor supporters can tell me exactly what the party stands for on key issues. Labor has cleverly managed to dodge media scrutiny during the campaign. While Palaszczuk and Jones were shown on television playing cricket and kissing babies, journalists failed to quiz them on deceptive advertising, the billion-dollar hole in their economic plan or union-bikie links. A Labor victory will add more confusion than light. A union-Left power grab means elected Labor MPs will be directed by puppetmasters outside parliament. This is because Labor’s state conference recently changed the voting rules so future parliamentary leaders will be chosen on a 33/33/33 split of unions, branch members and the caucus. It ensures unionists more sway over party policy. It means parliamentary democracy may be hijacked by the party chieftains and the powerbrokers who run the unions.

Doctor Spaceman posted:Poll results here have been pretty good for the Coalition, even during ICAC stuff sadly. And the polls were showing a 6% swing to the ALP instead of 12%. I'm sure NSW LNP are calling for Tony to be dumped before the election. Even if it only gives the feds a few months of boost, it will be enough to ensure a comfortable state win. NSW LNP rule the party and both Turnbull and Adolf Morrisson are NSW. That's my long bow right there folks.
