You have more fun as a follower. But you make more money as a leader.

I think he was called Fortress in the early promos for the series and they had to change it last minute.

Somebody post the "The real monsters are you the reader for reading this" pages from that.

It's funny because the book's numbers were falling like a chunk of iron fired from an orbiting railgun when they decided to bust that gem out.

To be fair, I don't see the problem in looking at *popular thing* and doing a story aping *popular thing*. And 'bunch of dudes in an arena' isn't exactly untrodden territory for comic books. In fact, I LOVE the bringing back of Arcade in that series, doing a Hunger Games/Battle Royale ripoff is exactly his territory (IIRC the comic us barefaced transparent about that, which I kinda liked)

What I'm saying is the premise wasn't flawed. Just everything else about it was. :(

Honestly, the way those tie-ins were constructed - as largely a series of interconnected set-pieces - played to Land's... I hesitate to use the word "strengths" in connection with Greg Land, but there it is.

I'm not going to call it great art or anything, but aside from Monica Rambeu I thought Land was decent on Mighty Avengers. Especially when the writer was making him draw extra dimensional entities or chicken headed thugs.

His Rambeu wasn't even that bad, just obviously a white chick he gave dark skin.

To expand on this, part of Killer Mike and El-P's promotion of this was asking artists all over the world to create their own spin on the group's gun-hand and hand-holding-chain motif http://tagthejewels.tumblr.com/ and Azrar and Young both were asked if they could do a variant cover with it by Marvel's editor in chief.

Then Mike and El-P flipped out because they are both massive comic book guys :3:

My favorite of last year's new bat books.
A good mix of ridiculous spy fiction stuff and pathos, one and done missions and really varied story construction (ie: one issue meant to be read forwards and backwards) which gets me interested in seeing where it'll go month to month.

I never knew that I always wanted a book where the highly technologically advanced heroes stop their galaxy changing event to play a tabletop RPG with pencils and paper.

At some point I hope they do an issue where we just see them play out a full campaign.
