Anything that reduces the number of "Nanami tries to find curry ingredients to cure body swap"-style episodes is a crime against humanity, and also against surfing elephants.

You know, ignoring the obvious thing to argue about for a second, this was kind of a dull first episode. It feels like a parody of Ikuhara, with all the flashing lights and roses and lesbians but nothing to ground it. The characters have very little personality and motivations that are either simple or too abstract to make sense of / relate to yet, and the visuals border on self-plagiarism. It just doesn't feel like there's anything new here, and it doesn't even live up to the energy and charm of the things it's imitating.
Agreed with this. When Kureha did the spinning-while-curled-up thing straight out of the Utena opening, it felt like "hey, here's an Ikuhara thing!" rather than anything to do with the show itself.

The religious imagery goes further in the manga, where the only girls the bears eat are the ones that taunt people for having bald heads.

They basically can't do a tragic ending with the story and themes they've set up. This show is a critical look at the classic yuri genre and all the baggage it inherited from Class S, which includes the notion that lesbian relationships are inherently transient - either you grow out of them or you're forced apart by death or some other separation. Pretty much the only way they can challenge that is with a happy, stable, and permanent lesbian relationship - otherwise, they're just recycling what they've been trying to criticise.
So the show ends with the tragedy of lesbian bed death?

So long Yurikuma, you were light on interesting imagery and even lighter on interesting characters, and basically a disappointment all around.
