It was really fun to watch every single poster on somethingawful who liked this show making sure to claim multiple times in every post how they disliked the mom rape. personally i hated the show, but loved the mom rape, so it was helpful for me to know not to pm any posters to talk about it.

"You're gunna break it!"

KLK was basically great when it hadn't taken any steps to define itself and was just limitless potential but then it turns out the writers who are at Trigger are terrible because their follow up was to make a show where chunibyo was in some universe entertaining, instead of the most painfully derivative thing in all anime.

KLK was great if you wanted to watch an action cartoon and not a thesis on the importance of fashion and gender roles, which for some reason everyone wanted it to be. I'll never understand anime fans who are constantly disappointed when their cartoons are just fun cartoons that don't "mean" anything.

idk i didnt want a thesis on gender roles i just didn't want 13:50 - Buttslap interrupting my dumb action cartoon

like fanservice elements are fine, gurren lagann is one of my favorite shows and that has Yoko Littner, Age 14 but klk was just weird about it instead of fun about it

that's pretty understandable though

especially considering the artstyle for KLK is incredibly unsexy

also i dont think anyone actually went into klk expecting a deep analysis of gender roles and fashion, that was just the excuse they all made for their raging erections

You know that was a LN adaptation right? Like, the whole plot and everything was already written by someone who isn't Trigger's writers?

I hope so, would make sense given how lots of long-time fans, including Zorak, just turned on it right at the end for no payoff of it's "themes" and reasons they used to defend it's fan-service as subversion. You can only defend your erection so long before you gotta bail.

I'm aware, I'm saying taking on that project, which was stupid and dumb was not a stellar move for a studio trying to prove a base level of competence after the weak writing/plotting of their original work on KLK.
Though that easily expands into a discussion about what studios do to stay afloat and such that I just don't have the energy for right now.

lol, yeah. klk sold really well and only lost out to stuff like infinite stratos and kuroko no basuke, but im sure the boys down at trigger are crying because some weirdos on something awful think their writing/plotting was weak, and have a desperate need to prove themselves to some american dudes on the internet

Masahiko Ohtsuka puts down his phone, shoulders trembling under the force of the emotional blow he's just received

just then, hiroyuki imaishi runs in, fifteen yoko dakimakuras bundled in his arms

"Mr. Ohtsuka, great news! we have nearly double the sales of... kyoukai... no... Mr. Ohtsuka, what's wrong?"

Ohtsuka closes his eyes, pinches the bridge of his nose, a great sigh running through his body. "Hiroyuki... our something awful thread..."

Hiroyuki drops his waifu all over the floor, lips forming a soundless 'no.'

Ohtsuka trembles. "It's been... gassed."

Hiroyuki weeps.

Uh OK, pretty sure they don't give a gently caress about any of that I didn't realize, "I prefer they don't make garbage" was a controversial stance. Carry on.

my posts are as bad the Current Releases review of Gone Girl

My favorite element of the kill la kill thread saga was people hyping it up as some modern renaissance of the Go Nagai style and then getting incredibly upset that it was exactly as trashy as Nagai's stuff was at his peak

So, the weirdo behavior that the odd kids do is now a "thing" in Japan anime?

there's like 1 small studio total (by small I mean not Toei or Sunrise) that gets to decide everything they want to do, and thats KyoAni
