The hippies may not have won, but they didn't exactly lose either. I think you should look into the history of the counter culture movement if you really want to understand. The 60s are still inspiring people today, and even though our culture is in many was (arguably) worse than it was back then, many of the ideas that were first introduced to our culture in the 60s are more pertinent now they they were even back then.
