which of these is the biggest piece of poo poo. i'll start.

atom

definitely the biggest piece of poo poo. like big serious problems all the time. today i opened it to find i can't open new tabs at all. just one tab and can't create new panes either.

there's like one sass watcher/builder for it and it was broken last time i tried to go to atom.

it's really loving slow too because it's built with node/javascript rofl.

sublime text

double poo poo. they made a new sublime text 3 that looks and feels exactly the same as before with not discernible added features except the "place pay us" message will come back even though you already did pay last time!! one feature you'd think they'd add by the 3rd version is more support for plugins, like letting devs build file browsers, web browsers or terminals into the app, but nope they do not have that manner of thing.

brackets

exponentially poo poo. made by adobe, but it's free and open source. so that's 3 bad things so far but it gets worse. you can actually put stuff in here like browser previews but you will realize you never really wanted to do that in the first place. owned, hahaha.

thank you

the times ive used Atom I have mostyl had to search for "how to X in atom" only to find its a feature they havent cloned from Sublime yet, and need to find an external package for it

the latest one was its not natively able to "find all occurences"

my favorite part about sublime text is how you go to preferences and it opens a json file for you. like how could you possibly get any less intuitive

you open the settings, but you can't edit it

so you open the user settings, but it's blank

so you have to copy and paste the settings into the user settings

yeah you arent meant to gently caress with the base settings, which is why you edit them in the user settings. you don't need to copy and paste them over, just write the stuff you want to change in the user settings and it overrides, kinda like CSS

ive not had to change any sublimes settings in forever

i love how sublime keeps unsaved files. so useful for notes and pastes that you don't really care where to save

glad notepad++ cloned that feature

everyone I've ever know who used vim was doing it for some weird nerd feeling of superiority or something and watching them was painful because of how much they constantly struggled with the stupid 1970s keyboard only interface.

emacs is everything that engineers need in a flexible, extensible tool. it's no surprise modern developers avoid it like the plague (they're not real engineers)

emacs is ok it's just that using it makes you dangerously stallmanesque. vim is the best choice for today's modern agile-oriented web engineer

Atom, like node, is too early in development to be worth using. It's currently a piece of garbage that works for the most part, but then everything gets destroyed.

Brackets is like atom but no one uses it? Not really sure

Sublime is the one all the ruby people love

Intellij IDEA is the one to use, but some people don't like it because "Its' too bloated boo hoo hoo" or "its made w/ Java, so like android its complete poo poo garbage". IDEA is the epic winnery, escpeically since they added multiple cursor buffers recently, so there's nothing the other editors have that IDEA doesn't have, and IDEA does linting way better than all the other pieces of poo poo editors
