Haven't been for years though, is it still relatively quite/ not very developed? I can't even remember the courses I played there, it was before I was old enough to drive a cart. I don't know how undeveloped it is, we stay on Caswell Beach which is all houses, no hotels or anything. There isn't "much" around just a few of beach shops, maybe a couple miles up the road is a shopping center with a grocery store and stuff. I don't know the area very well though. Oak Island GC is about 1/2 mile from the house we stay at and Carolina National is like a 20 minute drive into the middle of no where up 211 in Bolivia, NC. 211 is probably the most sparse road I've seen in a long time, though last year it looked like there were a lot of new developments being built on it. If you go the other way and north you're in Wilmington, NC which is pretty booming last I was there. For the most part Oak Island/Caswell Beach area is family beach atmosphere not touristy like Myrtle, so it's usually pretty quiet.

First round yesterday with the new Cobra King F6+, thing is a beast on the track. I didn't realize it made such a hollow thunk noise. When I hit one on a simulator the sound I guess was dampened from being in a small indoor space, but drat, this bitch be loud and awesome. Was a hard day to judge much more than accuracy thanks to the 30mph wind in the face all day, also it was 104 degrees with a heat index of like 112. Question for those that got one, does it seem really stiff, but then slightly flexy near the hozzle? I couldn't tell if it was just me, but I literally checked to make sure the screw was properly in and torqued twice to make sure. Running at 9.5 with weight in the second to front penetrating slot. Can't wait to get out there with it again after I adjust a bit. I literally took the plastic off the head while I was waiting on the first tee-box and put everything where I thought it would fit my game, pretty much everything was straight or fade and a I had 1 nice baby draw so it's *close*

I participated in a ReMax Long Drive local qualifier a couple years ago here in Charlotte at a local range. They were the only range around that could support the length because their range is like 400 yards normally, but they even built a small tee platform another 100 yards back over the chipping green to hit from. From what I could gather most of the people were just doing it for fun, like me, and a couple guys took it a bit more serious having like 4-5 drivers in a bag of varying specs. Not sure why that was their thing though or why they got into it. I think the dude that one blasted a drive 395 or something, but it was like his best ever, don't think he got even close in the regional. Just watching guys on tv in these comps some of them have clearly unorthodox swings, some are great swings etc. I myself can get a club head speed up to 125ish if I change my swing path more vertical, it doesn't work for every day golf as it's about a 4 in 5 straight block to the left, but if I throw my arms into it and rotate everything in proper sync for the speed the results can be pretty nice. If you look at like Sadlowski the dude is very vertical and long with his back swing, his driver for long drive is like 6" longer than the one he games normally. thebushcommander fucked around with this message at 15:29 on Aug 2, 2016 |

drat it, guys. You know them rounds where you're like 1 over through 12 and then all of a sudden you bogey the next 5 and par the last? That has happened to me twice in the last week. I guessing shooting back to back 78's should feel better than this, especially since both courses I played were 7100+ yards with pretty difficult ratings and slope, but man! I wish I could say it was my putting too, but it's not and it's not my tee shots either. Nearly all of the boges came from duffed >100 yard chips which is usually my money zone. I guess the last round wasn't the best putting wise, but I never really put myself in a better place on the green to have better then 30/70 odds of making a 1 putt. I had 2 bogies, 1 bird and 6 pars on the front. Also that birdie was on a par5 where I missed an eagle putt by about 5 inches. YAY

I took lessons from this guy for a while, busted my rear end hitting balls, with barely any improvement. I want lessons, but preferably not from a charlatan. Idk about a certification, although people can become certified golf instructors (which is different than a course pro etc.) Find someone that you like first and foremost, someone you don't mind talking to etc. Maybe find someone that can take your swing and make it work for you without completely changing it? You can probably also find decent reviews of teaching pros in the area online in most places. On the other hand some people can't be taught. I'm not saying you're that person, but maybe the guy was trying to get things across to you and not explaining in terms you could understand and reproduce? I'm about a 5 hdcp according to this grint app, and while I don't consider myself good enough to teach I can give tips to people that need them. My future brother-in-law is a loving terrible golfer, but thinks he should be awesome and doesn't "GET IT" when he tops the ball, shanks it etc. every stroke shooting a generous 138... I tried to explain to him on the tee box that his forward shaft lean and overly strong grip on a driver was incorrect (among many other things in posture, rotation, ball placement, tee height etc. the list goes on and on) and probably the source of 99% of his issues off the tee. He told me a buddy of his, that is really good at golf told him to do it like that, and I simply replied "if he told you that is a proper stance and setup for a driver then he is not good at golf." I moved him into the right position, weakened his grip slightly and low and behold he didn't hit a worm burner just a silly slice which is more or less an issue for the rest of his swing.... the very next hole he was right back to the same poo poo setup, topped the ball to the ladies tee box and looked at me and said, he did it the same way as the last hole when he clearly didn't. So I just told him to shut up. I almost wish I had video of him in a bunker as it would make even the worst golfers feel like 2001 Tiger Woods on a fucken hot streak. As for golf-specific workouts.. No. Do general strength and core training...and do some yoga. I'll find the link, there is like a 15 minute yoga for golf routine on a website that will help a lot just on it's own for flexibility, mobility etc. thebushcommander fucked around with this message at 20:05 on Aug 17, 2016 |

Course I played yesterday had probably 15 holes with pin placement no more than 2-3ft off the fringe. I thought it was a little weird since it their greens are pretty large and historically I've never seen the pins all placed like that there. At the turn the old guy in the club house said it was because it was winter(ish) and with all the hackers that seem to come to their course they're trying to preserve as much of the green as possible, putting it close to the edge means less trampling the parts of the green they want to keep nice for spring...He wasn't kidding though, yesterday was around 70 here and the course was jam packed and I counted at least 6 guys playing in jeans or jorts. Apparently they are extra lenient on dress code.

Scrambles are basically the worst, especially charity ones. I will never play in one again if I am expected to foot the bill for myself. I think I posted here about my last experience in one a year ago or so. The 18th was the "long drive" hole, I mashed the poo poo out of the power boost button and creamed a drive, perfect draw around the bend, ball ended up maybe 10 feet off the front side of the green. ~330+ yard drive all said and done. Easily had the longest by probably 40 yards. The prize was 4 round vouchers at a local TPC course. During the "awards" they called my name out for the victory and the guy sponsoring the prize decided since I had won he would rather give it to the only all woman group that played, so I got my choice between a crappy corona baggo set or a corona beach umbrella. In front of ~50 people there I told them that was kind of BS, took the baggo set and threw it in the garbage can. Thing was better off in the garbage anyway. We came in 3rd place overall that day. We shot a 60 (12 under) the winning group (a 13 year old, his grandfather, a man with a limp and a 10 handicapper) carded a 56....a fucken 56 and no one questioned it. I also got closest to pin that day and they didn't even have a prize for it. On a brighter note, I played in a 4 man best ball yesterday with a buddy of mine and some dudes he knows from work. They were all 5-6 handicaps, my buddy used to play to a +1, but hasn't played in a few years because life so he decided to roll as a 5 and myself, last year I was about a 3.5 and after ~5 months off My consistency is wrecked so they all just kinda marked me as a 10 handicap and went on with it. Shot a lights out 76... had a triple and and double and a birdie. The other group of "5 handicappers" didn't shoot better than 86 between them.
