I’ve always wondered if there’s like an optimal height or body characteristics for golf. Like, a really tall and lanky guy may be able to generate 20% more swing speed, but at the same time that extra length makes it 15% harder to make good clean contact.

Is it harder to be a great ball striker or putter or anything else if you’re tall vs short?

Maybe there’s like some diminishing returns or something and they’ll find that 6’3” is the optimal size that can generate distance without sacrificing ball striking or short game or something.

I’m talking in general though, and maybe it’s just as likely that the next dominant tour player is some 6’8” freak athlete, because that’s who we see on tour. Like, there’s a lot of 6’9” dudes, but there’s only one Lebron.

Man, Garmin is just killing it. I’m already envious of some fishing buddies that have a Garmin Livescope on their boat, and now they are owning the golf simulator game too.

What’s a realistic setup look like overall?

$600 for R10
$3-500 for hitting mat
$200-$300 for old laptop or iPad
$200 for a canvas mat or net?

If we are getting into sub-$2000 territory for a good home simulator setup(that can also be taken to the range!!!) I’m like really going to want to do that.

So my setup heading into the offseason is this:

Garmin R10 - $600
Spornia SPG-7 Net - $250. I got a 100 dollar net last year but I don't think it's up to the task and didn't want to go cheap on net.
Maxfli 3 x 5 Hitting Mat (Kinda went cheap on here, was fine year 1 we'll see heading into this year, may upgrade next year) - $150
iPad Air 2 from goon - $100

Grand total: $1100, maybe $1200 if I commit to Home Tee Hero for a year (I very likely will, I honestly like the Mario Golf style graphics).

Mevo+ and Skytrak are 2+ dollars not including anything else, right? And their add ons are significantly more expensive. You're looking at an easy $2000 difference between the R10 and the next simulator option right now.

Dang, that’s awesome. I’m putting it in the list for bonus time next year!

Played on Sunday this weekend, day after my sister’s wedding at which I stayed up until 530am.

Didn’t feel great, was a bit dizzy every time I bent over to put the ball on the tee, but played okay. Shot an 83, but it probably couldn’t have been higher than an 85 with how well I hit driver. Hit my wedges like crap and putted poorly though.

Was like 15!feet from getting on in two on a 560 and a 555 yard par 5, got par/birdie respectively. Then took a 7 ona 450 yard par 5 :suicide:

I’m a take glove off while I putt person, just feels right?

Also, started buying all my gloves from MG golf, they are like 6-8$ a piece and full Cabretta leather. Not going to pay $20+ for a golf glove ever again.

Don’t wear my wedding ring ever, it stopped fitting after I started climbing, my fingers got bigger/stronger :(.

I needed new gloves, so I just ordered 4 of the MG's based on this post.

Awesome! I’ve found them more or less identical to a footjoy or titleist glove, no problems with durability or anything either. I may not look as ‘elite’ wearing them, but I’m too old to care about that now. If someone asks what MG stands for I just make up something different every time, I think I went with Molecular Gastronomy last time.

Pretty flashy new bag over here, don’t be too jelly.

Driver: Ping G15 w/stock stuff shaft

3 wood: cobra BafflerRail F, I’ve only hit about 50 sky balls with this club, so the top line is mainly free of that distracting black paint they put on it. I struggle to find a 3 wood that I can hit well from the tee AND from the fairway, this has been the best for me.

5 wood: Callaway FT-fusion 5 wood. Don’t use this much anymore to be honest.

4 hybrid: Ping i15

5-PW: Ping s56 black dot. These things are old but drat if they don’t still look and play great. Someday will probably upgrade to something, but holy crap are these things in good shape for how many rounds I’ve played with them.

52*: Ping tour-s
56/60*: Cleveland something or others, honestly can’t remember.

Scotty special select Newport two putter.

I may pick up a used Ping G410 plus driver yogurt though for $200. Seems like a lot of guys using newer ping drivers, think that’ll be a meaningful upgrade over my …2009 Ping G15?

Also gonna spend a few days with my mom and dad down at Porta Cima in lake of the ozarks. Super fun Nicklaus design course if you ever get the chance to play it! Will be there 3 full days, hoping to get 6-7 rounds in!

Today’s story is a story if me being an idiot.

I bought a used Ping G410 plus from a guy for $200, and met him at a pga tour superstore to do the pickup. He didn’t have the wrench for it so I thought I’d just run in and grab one.

Ask if they sell the ping torque wrenches and their like, “ sorry, we just sell a universal torque wrench, but it works great.”

$10 later I’m on my way home(about a 40 minute drive).

Get home and thought I’d reset the driver to just stock settings before I try it. Loosen the screw, realign the tip, and tighten it down. I’ve only had a couple of these adjustable clubs in the past and they’ve always seemed like you gotta torque em fairly hard before the wrench slips.

So I’m tightening and trying m getting to the point where I’m like, ‘this is too much’ when TING, the screw snaps. F my life.

Call the shop and was like , ‘hey I’m an idiot, I used this torque wrench you sold me and twisted way too hard but it didn’t slip so I broke the screw.’

Brought it in the next day and the guy tested it out on one of their clubs and to my relief, nearly busted that club too. Immediately knew it was faulty. Goes back and says ‘hmmm, we don’t have any of those shafts, you want an X or a regular?’ Nope. ‘Hmmm, we’ll I can take that tip off and put a new one on for you, but it’s gonna be like a couple days.

I kind of sigh and reply, ‘dang, I have a golf trip I’m leaving for on Wednesday and I’m like an hour drive from here if there’s traffic.

He nods, walks out onto the floor and grabs a brand new G410, pulls the shaft on it, and puts it on my head. Then he hands me a brand new Ping torque wrench. ‘You’re all set, see you later.’

Pretty great customer service if you ask me, and I’m pretty relieved to get a new shaft cause who knows if I F’d the shaft up when that screw snapped. Definitely could have been like, ‘you’ll have to call company X who makes the wrench and see if they’ll pay for a replacement shaft’.

So yeah, don’t use cheap torque wrenches on your adjustable clubs folks.

First three rounds are in the books, played 36 holes yesterday and 18 today. 85, 74, 82.

Was on fire my second round yesterday, 1 under heading into 17, hit a perfect drive, then double bogeyed from 130 out in the fairway, dumb.

You may be the guy I bought my current 3-wood from years ago through an iteration of this thread. It has a broomstick of a fujikura, but when I can stay smooth, that baby is a missile launcher.

Here's what I'm rolling right now.

P Odyssey White Hot OG
W Callaway Jaws (blue dots from dicks) wedges 56 and 50
A-5 Callaway Apex '21 cavity backs
Ping G Hybrid
Callaway XR 4-wood
Callaway FT 3-wood
Ping G410 Driver (in love with it right now)

I’m almost sure that was me! I’m glad you still have it!

Course I was at had a Ping demo / fitting day, and I sneaked in for the last 15 minutes or so.

I found out a few things, my driver swing speed is 110, but I’m better off with like a 10.5 or even 11 degree driver. It was cool seeing all the numbers with someone who knows what they are doing. Apparently should see carry numbers around 280ish if I get fit properly.

New driver I bought does not fit me properly, so will be selling that :/.

Also, got to try out the new ping i59 irons and they are sweeeet. Feel great, apparently as forgiving as the i230s, and man, maybe one of the sharpest looking irons Ping has ever released in my opinion.

I’ll have to wait 2-3 years until I can get a set off someone on GolfWRX for $600.
