This thread has got me hooked. I watch Dragon's Den (UK version) but it drives me CRAZY because they narrate EVERYTHING that happens, just after it happens. At least Shark Tank doesn't do that. Oh goodness First pitch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQGdhg272nw Woman who went to Stanford and got an MBA wants 70,000£ to make a Bollywood board game which is really just a direct knockoff of Trivial Pursuit. Her pitch goes on waaaaay too long, and doesn't cover a single actual business detail or even explain how the game is played; she just rambles about Bollywood on and on. Kinda interesting to watch the very first episode of Dragon's Den Canada. The dragons seem so much more reserved (though Kevin does flip out over a woman pitching a "nap center"), and lack the chemistry I've seen in later seasons. I'd never seen one with Jennifer instead of Arlene, and boy is she a snooze fest. Also pretty funny how embarrassed they are by the product that starts just after 27 minutes, when in a later season they're totally chill talkin' vaginas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtRs6pNLyNg&list=PLCDFNL1F_j-B2zHrwf6vizxnSEanB4SOi EDIT: Holy smokes, this follow-up. I can guarantee you that the Dragon never heard from him again, and is lucky that he put the conditional clause on it. Okay, I do not get this product at all. Why on earth would I spend $1 a pop on a tiny plastic bag, when I can save the ones I get from supermarket/7-11/Walgreens for free? Am I sitting on a gold mine of the dozens of plastic bags that are stuffed into another bag under my kitchen sink right now? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UbDRo5eSlk&t=23m22s Why do the dragons even entertain this idea? Do Canadians not get plastic bags which can be reused? I keep one in my car for garbage like empty cigarette boxes and gum wrappers and such. Then, when I go to 7-11 for more cigarettes, I throw it out in their outside bin, and get another bag with my next purchase! I am a GENIUS, apparently. Also, be sure to stick around for the post-pitch interview. That... sure was an interesting way to break some news.

Some places (like the SF Bay Area) have banned plastic bags from groceries and charge $0.10-0.25 for paper bags. If she got it down to a quarter each or so, it'd be way more understandable than a whole dollar. I kinda wonder if Robert and Kevin make more money on Shark Tank vs. Dragon's Den (Canada), since there's just soooo much more poo poo on Dragon's Den, although I can't really think of a deal Kevin has made in a while (because nobody loving wants to pay royalties, Kevin!), and Robert tends to have deals stolen from under him.

Is that common in Canada? And I agree, it seems like Kevin almost never lands a deal, unless he goes in with someone else. I honestly can't remember a time when he seals a deal by himself, and I've binged a ton of DD. I think they keep him around for comedy value --- compare with Jennifer from season 1, who not only makes no offers but brings nothing to the show, she barely even talks. Thank goodness she got replaced with Arlene. fake edit: of course, I say that while watching Season 8 Ep 6, and Kevin just solo invested in an online clothing consignment business.
