For reference we do have plastic bags here in Canada. Some chains are charging 10 cents a bag as a "green" initiative and the city of Toronto was considering a ban a few years back but never passed it.

This starts out pretty straightforward, I figure they're going to demo some new & improved gadget to speed up getting the meat from a lobster or something. Then it really takes a turn for the weird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nqQ4wPS9wg&t=26m55s That was NOT the product I expected them to be pitching.

I love how so many of these cottage business people tell the investors (and with pride) that their sales are in the thousands of dollars. Like that's a point in their favor when they're trying to convince them that their business is worth half a million or more

I find the relationship between the sharks/dragons really interesting. For the first few seasons Cuban was on, Robert seemed to really, really dislike him. Robert seems kind of jealous. That seems to have mellowed some. It doesn't seem like Robert and Kevin would get along either, but I don't think they've had much conflict. The women really don't like Kevin most of the time, but they still want to go in on deals with him.

I like it too, I always assumed it was because Cuban is way wealthier than the rest of them (maybe even combined) and Mark sort of filled a similar niche as Robert did. Obviously Robert is more technical, but Mark's original claim to fame was in a similar area, and people think of him as an internet/technology guy, even if he really isn't in the same way that Robert is.

Yeet posted:Weird lady wants to build a straw castle for motocross I'm kind of disappointed that Kevin's impending shitstorm that three of the dragons left for turned out to be a pretty mild chastising for a stupid concept. I don't think I've seen the dragons treat a guy more viciously (justifiably so) than that one guy who was selling silver/magic water or whatever it was, but sometimes a blunt reality check is what's needed. Also seriously a goddamn straw resort.

There's a Shark Tank spinoff called Beyond the Tank coming soon that shows what happens after they make a "deal" on camera. Apparently about 1/3-2/3rds of the deals die in due diligence, so hopefully it isn't too dressed up in reality showiness because more opportunities for cock ups, like that one video with the professor screwing over his students, are what this thread really need.

Does this mean they weren't paying the models enough? I thought it was standard that when you have somebody using your product they pretend to like it, or at least remain neutral but optimistic. I feel like that valuation cheated the viewers of some fighting, Arlene was really ready to rumble and at least Jim would have fought back (maybe Bruce or Kevin too).

I'd be tickled to watch this if it only focuses on the failures of the inventors. I get irrationally angry when I see follow-ups on DD people who refuse reasonable investment offers or totally change their business model, then smugly come back with success stories after getting free advertising as well as business advice from people who aren't total loons and are all "well, your mistake, dragons!" Example: I wish I could find it, but there was a couple who'd invented a pretty nifty grooming device for animals. It was sorta like a combo hose & shop-vac that squirted soapy water so it gets under the fur, then immediately sucks the dirty water back out so you don't have to dry the animal off. They brought in their black lab to demonstrate it. The dragons, like myself, were pretty impressed and started asking if they'd been approaching the dog grooming business. Nope, they were dead set on marketing it to horse lovers. Jim even pipes up that he has solid connection to Petco, they could make mad bank selling this to the jillions of places offering dog grooming instead of the niche market of horse fanciers. "Nooo... we really want to focus on the equine market." They didn't get a deal and walked out all pouty. Later that season, DD did one of their follow-up segments on them. Lo and behold, their business was now a success because they'd turned it into dog grooming service --- exactly what the dragons suggested. Them: "Sorry dragons, you should have invested in us!" Me:

You're an accountant? Nope Oh, but you do the books for investors... No ...... how do I make a return? 1400 programs which is 2% of the firms, another 2% of the firms in Canada, x $2000 per, there's your dollars for year one. ...... Sounds like she just shut down. Completely failed to explain what her plan was. I imagine there's much more to it that got edited down but if anything was coherent they probably would have included it. From that some episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiO0RTrQk5o&t=22m40s Board game called "Hole" where you throw quarters at... you guessed it... a hole. But wait, there's a twist Afterwards is another board game based on "the four main races" which is pretty racist, since they define people as primary colors. ("Tell us about a positive encounter you had with a person of the yellow race") And then later on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiO0RTrQk5o&feature=youtu.be&t=37m33s Brett and especially Robert get super super butthurt because the pitchers put a picture of Kevin O'Leary on their website and offered some extra equity if he endorsed them. "Here's what I hear, 'Kevin, I love you, the rest of you suck' ... you know what I find irritating about you guys? ... I find you guys a joke. " Jesus Christ are you full of yourself, Robert. How DARE somebody appeal to another rich investor on the show and not you too? Like a spoiled little child. Zaphod42 has a new favorite as of 23:58 on May 4, 2015 |

Zaphod42 posted:I imagine there's much more to it that got edited down but if anything was coherent they probably would have included it. Eh, I'd guess if there was anything coherent, that would have NOT included it. Makes for better tv. I'd love to see a completely unedited run on any "episode". I know they must tape multiple episodes a day, but some questions that arise when I binge watch: 1. Whole seasons feature the Dragons wearing the same clothes. Obviously they aren't shooting for 40+ hours straight, so I guess they come in day after day, and wardrobe puts them back into the same suits/outfits? It's something you only notice really when binging and consider that for every 10 minutes you watch, Robert's been wearing that same tie for an hour or more. 2. Whenever there's an alcohol pitch and Arlene appears to be getting hammered, I gotta wonder which pitches came before/after that, and how the editors deal with that. 3. Sometimes the pitchers have a giant prop set-up before they enter, and sometimes they bring smaller props in. Either way, the dragons appear surprised during the "whip the black cloth off" reveal. Yeah, it's "reality" tv and edited to hell, but I wonder how much the dragons know in advance what the pitchers are going to present. Like, the episode with the monster truck. Does the production team actually take them off set, roll in a monster truck, cover it, then bring them back in? Or is that all completely staged? I'd just like to know how long an actual season shoot takes, and how it works. Are there any tell-all blogs about being a pitcher on DD that anyone knows about? I am strangely fascinated by this show.
