These past few pages made me sad for a lot of reasons. Can we please let GamerGate die the death it deserves? I know we all feel very strongly about this, but I don't think this kind of vitriol is necessary. It just hurts everyone. I know I sound like a mom, but please just be nice. I reckon the overwhelming majority of people here are good folks, but a sour topic makes for sour conversation and people saying things otherwise would not. Can we just make it a rule that GamerGate cannot be discussed here anymore? Fake edit: Previous guy had the right idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLKZtppbm_Q

Cloud Atlas is really good. It's not a straight adaptation of David Mitchell's book; it has its own distinct creative vision that you don't see in a lot of movies. The Wachowskis actually own because they've got some seriously lofty ambitions in a lot of their work. Even when it turns out bad, they take way more risks than other sci-fi directors.

Cubey posted:I'm not sure many people have particularly high hopes for a new Star Wars tbh New Star Wars actually looks really good so far. Like, it could still end up terrible, but almost everything they've shown/announced has been good. More practical effects, real sets, puppets, no EU bullshit, relative unknown actors, female and black leads, screenwriter from Empire Strikes Back, fight choreography done by the guys who did The Raid movies, Andy Serkis, and an outright REFUSAL to accept George Lucas's script suggestions. It's definitely going to play it safe; it won't bring the series in a new direction, and it won't equal the original trilogy. There's gonna be a lot of references and fanservice, just like the Abrams Star Trek, but honestly, Abrams was more cut out to make a Star Wars movie than a Trek movie anyway. I've got high hopes. Jurassic World, on the other hand...

It's riffing on how despite the unity of humanity and the federation is a happy smiley postracial wonderland we promise, it still has higher ups mostly consisting of old white dudes and is mostly preoccupied with how it's going to start a war with The Space Foreigners. This is pretty good. Can you explain to us why the Transformers movies are actually strokes of genius and how Dark of the Moon is a sequel to Spielberg's Duel?

Opera Bitch posted:I was looking for an old Cinema Snob episode online and I stumbled across a blogspot site called Cinema Snob Sucks Blog, clicked it out of curiosity and found it's written by a guy who makes a post criticizing every CS video that is put up as well as site announcements. He even has a post analyzing the reason why Jake is no longer part of the team while ripping on a girl named Rayn who was in a Brad Tries video. It is super creepy to me how some people expend lots of energy on stuff they supposedly hate, as there are commenters who share the blogger's views as well. I give credit to you Allison for keeping up with your art, because I couldn't begin to fathom how it feels to know people online are invested in critiquing both your videos and your lives offline. It makes me appreciate your tenacity and material much more because it really has to be a labor of love for you to keep doing it. Is Busy Street or whatever still around, because holy poo poo did they make bigger asses out of themselves than anyone they were trying to "criticize".

Doug continues to not know how movies work/can't fall back as the criticisms being part of the character/reusing jokes from 6 years ago. http://channelawesome.com/nostalgia-critic-real-thoughts-on-mortal-kombat/ "If you watched an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon without the gore, would it be as good." Yeah, duh. It's not like it was meant to be an excessive parody of Tom and Jerry or something. It's not like you haven't professed your love for Tom and Jerry in the past. It's also not like Itchy and Scratchy ISN'T A REAL loving SHOW. Also, saying that gore is crucial to Mortal Kombat's appeal is inherently wrong, and there's an entire generation of kids who grew up with Super Nintendos that can attest to that.

Hey, y'all wanna hear something funny? Sometime around 2009, LordKat had just started his "Until We Win" series and hadn't even been picked up by TGWTG. His main exposure was on The Spoony Experiment forums, which I frequented at the time. One day, I talked about how I was a fan of Retsupurae, and he went on a tirade about the injustice of two people who didn't know how hard it is to make videos relentlessly harassing others online. How's that pound cake taste, motherfucker?
