jwang posted:Hero's War really makes me realize that being dropped into a medieval setting (even one with magic) is functionally like coming out of a fallout shelter after an apocalypse. You have to figure out how to put back together a functioning modern society as we know with bare bones knowledge of how things work and far too little tools to do it with. In a sense, being transplanted from one world to another that's on a much lower tech level is a personal apocalypse by itself. Jackard fucked around with this message at 18:01 on Aug 23, 2016 |

No but I'll check it out. I did remember the name of one series, "The Warlock in Spite of Himself" by Christopher Stasheff. A space traveler with robot sidekick ends up on a medieval style magic world.

blastron posted:*cough cough* there's this really cool story called "Ascendance of a Bookworm" that some goon is translating and i think it's pretty good, albeit kinda slow, so check it out and maybe add it to the OP none of that halfassed nonsense like keeping honorifics or weird onomatopoeia Jackard fucked around with this message at 00:42 on Sep 21, 2016 |

Speaking of Bookworm, I noticed a few manga chapters that included maps:

I said the same thing and got this:FriggenJ posted:The first few chapters are kinda like that. But it picks up reasonably well. FriggenJ posted:Eh, the translation remains a little rough. But I found the series amusing, it isn't even close to my top 10 but it's a change of pace from most reincarnation novels. Give it til chapter 5ish, if you don't like it by then you'll probably not like the rest. Jackard fucked around with this message at 19:01 on Sep 26, 2016 |
