It's been recognized as an unnecessary practice for over 30 years now but dumbasses still love to talk about it for some reason:

quote:

"In 1971 I stressed protein complementarity because I assumed that the only way to get enough protein ... was to create a protein as usable by the body as animal protein. In combating the myth that meat is the only way to get high-quality protein, I reinforced another myth. I gave the impression that in order to get enough protein without meat, considerable care was needed in choosing foods. Actually, it is much easier than I thought.
"With three important exceptions, there is little danger of protein deficiency in a plant food diet. The exceptions are diets very heavily dependent on [1] fruit or on [2] some tubers, such as sweet potatoes or cassava, or on [3] junk food (refined flours, sugars, and fat). Fortunately, relatively few people in the world try to survive on diets in which these foods are virtually the sole source of calories. In all other diets, if people are getting enough calories, they are virtually certain of getting enough protein."[3]

This is the funniest part. Because there are definitely lots of people that get most of their calories from poo poo food.

i dont even rlly think about it...i used to take protein shakes n poo poo bc i have to bike 10 hilly miles a day and also do fairly strenuous workouts in da gym at least every other day. but i stopped protein shakes or even thinking about getting enough protein like a year ago and havent noticed a difference. every1 is different iguess. most protein rich food i eat is greek yogurt, i also eat a lot of pierogis and pizzas and bread n butter

it's not saying that protein deficiencies are impossible to develop, just that eating a diet with even a modicum of diversity will ensure that you meet your protein needs.

Your poor reading comprehension is the funniest part IMO

Or you could just not be a vegetarian, like sane people.

Hmm.... general exercise eh?

I just checked and the CDC says the RDI for protein ages 19+ is 56g. I'm currently about195lbs, about 15lbs over the weight I'd like to be, maybe a little less.

MensFitness says that a 4oz chicken breast is about 27g. That would mean I'd have to eat about 7.2 chicken breasts a day (if that's the only thing I eat that gives me protein).

That's a lot.

Edit - I still don't get this thread and have no idea why I'm posting in it.
