It's a pity for Ireland that Manuka is such a road. All minnow vs non-minnow matches should be played on minefields imo

Also lol that the Jimmy Anderson is tired thing has been brought out yet again after he shits the bed away from home. He's the Mahela Jayawardene of bowling.

He didn't play in the 7-match series against Sri Lanka and neither did Broad IIRC. They both look shot though.

The two white ball experiment is turning into a bit of a failure IMO. Yeah the white ball is a piece of poo poo in general but unless the bowlers can get the ball to swing they are going to be absolutely carted because the batsman is now hitting a much harder ball late in the game. There is less in it for spin bowlers too.

The people want to see massive sixes though. God forbid a batsman's strike rate drop below 80 in an ODI. Even fours don't get cheered as much as they did anymore lol.

Just get rid of fielding restrictions, creep the boundaries a bit further back and get rid of the second new ball and ODI cricket will get competitive again.

I wouldn't be surprised if more teams put nurdlers in their top order and their very best batsman lower down the order from now on. Maybe England is on to something with Bell opening...

All of this would be true if Aus v NZ didn't happen a week ago. Its poo poo bowling thats the problem, notbatting.

Also the NZ pitch was a belter which provided a nice bit of swing for the bowlers. Games like that are going to become rarer though as the demands of TV revenue and the general public's bias towards dominating batting over dominating bowling performances entrenches itself. Batsmanship has evolved and become leagues better than just ten years ago, while bowling has become much harder in part because of ICC rules.

Even if England find a couple of exciting aggressive batsman in the near future they still have the problem of not having any strike bowlers.

Morgan was an exciting batsman then he got englanded and now he goes for a duck every game.

I reckon the burden of captaincy got to him. If he had the whole Sri Lanka tour as captain he might've had a better WC, but they stuck with Cook for too long.

As much as we make fun of it, maybe the England players actually do just need to play their natural game. Make Root captain, free Morgan and Buttler and Ali to play much more aggressively, find a fast bowler or two who can actually bowl fast and England will be at least as good as Pakistan.

His average has dropped by 10 every year since 2010. English Syndrome isn't caused by being the captain.

edit: England will not have a good fast bowler until they stop producing garbage green tops and send anyone with natural talent to be ruined by flower's reeducation camp.

I just had a glance at his ODI innings and there hasn't really been any period where he has been consistently good. Oh well.
