this game sounds awesome as gently caress and i didn't know it existed. i've heard and played a bit of Secret of Mana, but from what I understand Legend of Mana uses worldbuilding as a mechanic somehow. How true is this?

i've been playing a lot of older games here recently so how does Legend of mana hold up? is it worth the 40 bucks from some lovely retro game store?

Has anyone actually figured out every single aspect of the crafting mechanic in that game? I mean like, every aspect of it. It's one of the most obtuse I've seen.

nope, even the serious gamefaq autists are unsure how it actually works.

the music in the game is loving quality tho and Janet Jackson sampled one of the tracks.

a crafting system that crafts other similarly complex crafting systems

I remember renting this game. It had good music and art but it wasn't very compelling. I'd say play Seiken Densetsu 3 instead if you want a rare square gaming experience. Thanks.

no, you craft a single item like a sword or harp then make it stronger (or sometimes weaker) by continually hammering more poo poo into it.

i really like boktai 2's crafting where you can take one cheap piece of poo poo sword and constantly upgrade it until it's the ultimate blade

You could pal around the whole game with a Rabite party member or a golem buddy or even wreck poo poo with a 2P character.

Also the dragon fights were really cool and they have awesome sprites.

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
One of my favorite games, though it plays a lot more like a beat-em-up than an action RPG like Secret of Mana. I mainly like it because the graphics and music are fantastic and I like the "plot" of your character just going around and watching poo poo happen.

Creating the world is kinda dumb though because if you don't do it a specific way it's easy to miss a few quests. There's New Game + at least but if you're a completionist you'll want to use a FAQ or two to make sure you don't miss any quests (and also talk to the cactus after every quest if you're that obsessive).

Crafting is ridiculously obscure as mentioned, but you don't really need to craft anything to win the game. On the flip side, it's trivial to make a massive gently caress-off weapon that'll trivialize the entire game. There's lots of cool tricks to give you neat buffs and new moves but it's all incredibly convoluted and unnecessary.

It's great if you go in not expecting another Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 3, and if you're cool with poo poo like learning to talk to bears so you can sell lamps to them so a centaur can gently caress a siren.

All your friends and foes,
they thought they knew ya,
but look who's in your heart now.
It's a great game. I wish the series hadn't been bastardized into Yet Another Frito Phone Game, but square enix has a habit of doing that to their franchises lately...

its very good and has lots of charm
you wont have lack of things to do and if you have a friend they can play with you or do their own playthrough of the game and you can duel them in an arena which i did with my brother and made for a good time
its an extremely solid game but keep in mind you might feel a lack of control of the story since it can seem like a bunch of random side quests but a lot of them do tie into each other and help support the main story arch

Legend of Mana is the ps1 game, right? I played the poo poo out of Secret co-op. How does it compare? And is the co-op the same? I'm sure I could google this poo poo, but it's more fun to discuss.

pretty much you meet lots of different characters in the game that go in and out of your party and as long as you have somebody in your party a friend can play with you

on that note, I was pretty let down when ff7 wasn't nearly as good as ff6, nor has it aged nearly as well as ff6

ff6 is possibly, maybe, the best console rpg ever made

I bought a brand new re-print of chrono cross in 2013 from sony, thought I would see if they had legend of mana.

I just tried to find the site, it's like it never existed. Was it all a dream?
