From what I understand, years of car manufacturing has not been kind to Detroit's soil and you will not be able to grow anything edible for a while. More trouble than it's worth to garden in Detroit.

I'd take the blog source with a grain of salt. Besides, screaming about nothing being able to grow sounds much more sensational than simply making a raised planter.
