I'm not a fan of the argument that Pokemon is a bad franchise due to the relatively slow evolution of the series. Each game has been a marked improvement on the last in pretty much every way and I appreciate that consistency even if it's very gradual. They're invariably high quality, polished, and potentially deep RPGs with great music and visuals. Having played almost every generation, I can say they add enough new features and improvements to qualify it as a distinct new game. From what I've heard about their sales figures, you could hardly blame them for not totally reinventing the series with each game.
