"Kids are lazy" is a bunch of bullshit I used to get off school at 2:30 and play nintendo until night time My kid has to get up early, be dropped off early because mom and dad work, stay at school doing school poo poo until 5:30, then come home do his homework, and maybe get an hour of TV or video game time. He is loving FIVE YEARS OLD My parents had probably even more time to dick around than I did, so gently caress all this baby boomer nonsense, can't wait until they all rot in the ground

Reddit Dad needs to take a page from the Mr. Rodgers book and tell his kid that he loves him just the way he is. If you want someone to change you have to start at the place they are and then go from there. You can't just present a person with a relationship miles from their current state of mind, body, emotion, and interest, and expect them to just come running to engage you. That said, I sure hope my kids don't grow up to be fat wizardchanners who cry all of the time. I would certainly have to swallow a lot of hopes and dreams about my progeny.

To be fair to people leaping to the conclusion the kid is depressed or has anxiety issues I behaved exactly like that kid when I was 13 and was depressed and had anxiety issues, therapy isn't a bad call.

yes it's nerdy as poo poo, partly because astronauts aren't scientists they're specially trained air force pilots, and astronomy is nearly 100% theoretical physics and statistics. science camp is basically a guided tour of a museum and taking some science/math classes earlier than you do in school

i went to space camp, it was rad, it ended with a 3 hr shuttle simulator, the older groups did a 24 hr sim
