I'd be interested in a mod which allows you to illadvisedly travel to more dangerous planets. Or hell, a super multibiome planet which contains threats from tiers 1-5 and then another that contains threats from tiers 6-10. Bonus points if you get a chance to be invaded from the harder planet which can be ended by staging a raid on the space base near the landing point on the second planet. Regular planets would be threat tier 3-9 and then 10+ for endgame content. They'd also have enemies and weapons you couldn't find on your superplanet. This'd give you a reason to stay on one planet and build bases, to explore more dangerous locations when you're not ready for it and provide a calmer place to regroup when you die. It'd be a bit more Terraria like, but you'd also have to have cheaper requirements for earlygame tools and perhaps have higher requirements for better gear? "Hylotl Katana" would cost 5 iron bars and "Hylotl Masterwork Katana folded 10000 times" would cost a good bit more, prompting you to explore other planets to pay for better weapons. Oh and have planets that are entirely made out of a particular material for extra otherworldy effect. Can't hurt to have a Rust planet with loads of iron on it at tier 5 when iron becomes less important.

You could also make a nano buff slot too, which can make various effects depending on the material you put in there, like tar for sticking on walls or oil for slip sliding around the place.
