YO okay so people talk poo poo about Metroid Prime Echoes and yeah I GET IT some folks just can't handle the hot action in the dark world when your health gets all drained and poo poo even though it's a legitimately interesting and sensible gameplay mechanic for a Metroid game to adopt. But okay, the boss battles? In that game? Mad fresh yo. The spider ball tracks? Amazing. The poo poo they do with the Morph Ball is off the goddamn chain in Echoes and the last boss is an intense thrill ride and they basically just stuffed the game full of bosses and there are maybe only three lame bosses in the game and two of them are like the first bosses you meet

Fonzarelli posted:this game is cool but that bee boss was absolutely awful Prime 1 has some kind of goofy bosses, but they are almost all front-loaded. The first "real" boss of the game is Flaahgra and after that, the bosses are fine. They are vastly improved in Prime 2, and there are way more of them too.

Anatharon posted:Is there anything special about Metroid Prime Trilogy in particular or is it just a straight up port? They're best when they are super-powered versions of regular enemies. Except for the Dark Alpha Blogg because gently caress that guy and his goddamn hitbox If there is one problem with Echoes is that it has some very wonky hitboxes on pretty drat key enemies.

Haruharuharuko posted:It's good its just not what people wanted Retro to be doing. They wanted them to update a nintendo franchise again like the did with Metroid or make another Prime. Also don't forget the DKC:R for the wii had loving motion controls in a precision platformer it was later fixed in the 3ds port but damage done. Which is exactly what they did, with Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Haruharuharuko posted:How is making the exact same game reinvigorating a series? Note: I love the poo poo out of DKC:R3D and DKC:TF but gently caress I wish they used that talent for something else. We hadn't had an actual proper DKC game since DKC 3 and that was a whole two console generations ago. DK64 was kind of a mixed bag and DK hadn't helmed his own game in awhile. Retro took all the existing elements Rare had left behind, tossed what they didn't want, and rebuilt the game. It's the same basic concept, but the game plays quite different from the SNES DK games. The changes are all good, more or less, and the difficulty and quality of platforming is better than ever. In fact, I'd argue that both of the Retro DK games are actually better than the Rare ones in almost every regard. It breathed new life into the franchise, and now we can expect to see more Donkey Kong games in the pipeline, even if Retro won't be attached to them.

Ausmund posted:No Kremlings I guess if you really miss pirate crocodiles or whatever, but the new enemies are all pretty great. It was a bunch of Tiki nonsense in Returns, but I actually rather liked the aesthetic. Tropical Freeze has snow pirate guys so it's kind of like DKC2 I GUESS
