In happier news, this past Valentine's Day, Feb. 14th, 2015, was the 40th anniversary of the Rowdies. :toot:

They played their first match of association football on Valentine's Day, 1975.

It was an indoor match though. :smith:

But they won! :toot:

It was a 7-2 indoor win over the Washington Diplomats on Valentine's Day, 1975 at the Bayfront Center (within shouting distance of their current home at Al Lang - the Bayfront Center is no longer with us, however).

Speaking of the Diplomats, I just have to love a team whose jersey actually said DIPS right across the front. Maybe that word isn't used that way by the kids these days, though. :corsair:

This could be something. I wonder if they could actually coexist. they aren't in the same league, and aren't playing in the same stadium.

But anyway, go Nashville FC

[fake fake edit] I guess they can't if NashvilleFC's goal is promotion, I need to read emails more thoroughly. Duh.

Yeah if Harrisburg moved here it would be the death of Nashville FC, or it would at least be left as an amateur squad forever. There are a lot of meetings with the mayor upcoming. I really hope Harrisburg does not move here. I prefer my clubs grown, not moved.

The most interesting thing happening in Indy Eleven land is that the snow hosed up their travel plans, so the team had to take an extra day getting back from Arizona. AZ > Las Vegas > ATL > Chicago > Bus to Indy. Or something like that.

Rowdies Individual Game Tickets For 2015 Season on Sale Now:

http://www.rowdiessoccer.com/news/d...ow#.VPQLuJy1idB

"We have worked very hard during the off season to improve every aspect of the club,” said principal owner Bill Edwards. “We needed to make it easier and more convenient for fans to buy tickets, without making it more expensive. This partnership with Ticketmaster gets it done.”

Edwards added “we also heard from fans that nearby parking was an issue. We took care of that too. Now there will be plenty of Rowdies-dedicated parking on match nights.”

Edwards is referring to several new parking options for Rowdies fans. In addition to the stadium lot, fans will find ample parking at the McNulty Garage, USF St. Petersburg Garage, Northern Trust Bank Garage and South Core Garage, all located within a short walk to the stadium.

With a wider field, all seats will be closer to the action than ever before. The pitch now measures 115 x 75 yards, instead of last year’s 112 x 71 yards. Other Al Lang Stadium improvements include revamped concession stands, 55-inch flat screen monitors throughout the concourse, a new team store, Rowdies décor throughout and a new state-of-the-art scoreboard.

RIO MAIOR, Portugal (March 2, 2015) — One of the Tampa Bay area’s brightest prospects is coming home as the Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Monday the signing of Ben Sweat ahead of the 2015 North American Soccer League season. Per club and league policy, contract details were not disclosed.

Sweat, 23, returns home to the Gulf Coast after spending the 2014 season with the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer. Sweat is a Palm Harbor native and product of the Clearwater Chargers Academy. A 6-foot-2 natural left back, Sweat played his club career for the Chargers SC US Soccer Development Academy, the Rowdies’ official USSDA partner.

"I'm super excited for this opportunity to play in my home town and play in front of friends and family every game," Sweat said. "I'm proud to represent this club and wear a Tampa Bay Rowdies jersey. I'm looking forward to this season and getting out onto the field with a Rowdies logo on my chest."

City of St. Pete to build 1,800 seat baseball park at Walter Fuller complex; no doubt compensation to the St. Pete Baseball Commission for losing control of Al Lang to Edwards:

Not really NASL related, except indirectly through the old NASL Rowdies, but I heard a radio spot on Sirius XM 94, for the "Grumpy Pundits" (Rodney Marsh and Tommy Smyth) wherein Marsh declares that if the top European football leagues have to stop their season for a month or two in the winter of 2022 in order to play the World Cup in winter in Qatar, that he, Rodney Marsh, will drink coffee at a Starbucks in New York City while wearing a women's dress. Marsh is showing his age; I doubt anyone in NYC in 2022 would notice anything amiss. :bigtran:

Unfortunately Marsh has a bad track record with these kinds of wagers; I hope he is not jinxing the 2022 World Cup:
