it was an enix game, which means it and the rest of the illusion of x games are under SE's umbrella now and if you know anything about SE you know that they never truly let a property go. ever. no, not even then. really it'd just be better to have a spiritual successor to those games because really what about the world/story is worth keeping? just make something 'inspired by it' and replace all the gaia references with earthmother or something equally dumb
