I finished two games recently: Open Sorcery and Tell Me Why. I was surprised the latter would even run on my ancient rear end toaster of a computer. Both were chill. In Open Sorcery you are an AI learning about the world and emotions while carrying on your duty to protect your town from rogue spirits. TMW is a story in a small town in Alaska about two siblings figuring out what really happened the day their mother died. I wrote longer reviews for the both of them if you care about that sort of thing.

If anyone wants to play coop Streets of Rage 4, Bloons TD6, or Cook Serve Delicious 3, or even Guilty Gear Strive during the weekends then add me on Steam.

It hits the feels just right. It's an endless cycle of all the bad, horrifying things we do to each other, but knowing there's always a bit of hope at the end of the tunnel, that was a strong message.

The most recent game that gave me a similar (though with more of a hopelessness feeling) was What Remains of Edith Finch. That was a roller-coaster too with an ending that left me sad for that miserable family, always picking the worst possible choices.

I have a Super Mario Bros pinball table from Gottlieb I bought from a closing down café in 2008.

(not my picture)

Sadly, it's not been 100% operational in years and I keep hating myself that I haven't yet made enough time to go learn proper electronics and pinball repair to fix this darling :(

There's a pinball vidya game called Pinball FX3 and I always want to get into it and see all of the cool stuff a table can do but I usually can't accurately hit the ball in the time limits to do the cool stuff.

It gets better with some practice. In fact, you can play the practice mode without a game over (so no pressure) to get better at any of the one hundred tables this thing supports. The tables can be very different so buy a pack (they are on sale on Steam right now) that looks interesting, and rotate between them until you find the one you enjoy more, and then just practice for half a hour once a week or so. It may not seem much, but it's enough to eventually learn exactly how to control the ball, when to shoot it in what portion of the flipper depending on where you want to aim and what speed the ball is coming in.

TF2 always had a bot "problem" in that a ton of community servers were just full of bots to pad player count. This video from "back in the day" was a funny way to tell new players how to identify the situation and leave for a better server:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYN7RxpumU8

Aimbots are generally not actually bots, though. They are people using cheats and Valve mostly (and sadly) gave up on keeping the blacklist updated to deal with these.

Much like posting on the internet, the best way to play TF2 is still private servers that have some form of moderation.

A couple of hints: the hammocks have numbers, they are important. The crew ledger has numbers as well and only the low rank sleep on the hammocks, the high ranked ones have their own cabins. Groups were generally national, so Russians would play cards together, and Taiwanese (Formosa) people would in most situations not interact with Chinese sailors. Sometimes you can't see someone in full but you can see their socks or tattoos.

Uh, I had no idea it was on the 3DS, but I wouldn't recommend playing that version... or any other but the one on PC. You see, the point of it is being able to actually to go into the game's installation directory and change things to modify in-game outcomes. It legit expects you to cheat like that and I can't imagine that sort of thing working on a game console.

It's great to play games in bed when you are too exhausted/sore to be sitting at a desk in your spare time.

It only seems to be bad with games that require additional launchers like Ubisoft's. I knew people including me were right to be pissed off at those things a few years back.

awesome spring sig by RavenousScoot

There's three big strikes against the Ally:

1) interface, Steam Deck has a whole interface dedicated to gaming on a handheld; you are gonna loathe trying to steer Windows 11 into doing anything with thumbsticks
2) battery, it doesn't last anywhere as long as the Deck, making it not much portable
3) price, say what you want but money is tight for most people

And that's not considering the Ally may indeed just explode inside and become an expensive brick like the latest ASUS laptops.

Go with the cheapest deck and a big SD card. Enjoy it. It will cover most cases you will want from it, from your decade old Steam library to all sorts of console emulation. If you are playing a big AAA game you will want the more expensive device because of the super duper NVMe disk, but most people don't need that.

I try to buy physical copies when I can, even if it's a 20% premium, because of issues like this and the fact that first party nintendo carts tend to keep their value.

I did that all my life. My office looks like a whole library, just that instead of books it's videogames from every era those have been a thing. Yet, the last few years I can count on one hand the amount of those games I actually played.

I always lean instead to play whatever's digitally installed on my PC/Deck, 3DS, Switch, PS4, or the all-in-one MiSTer. So, it's like the worst of the two worlds where I feel FOMO if I don't own the actual thing, but then the convenience of not having to deal with physical media always win out such that buying them physically ends up being completely pointlessly.

If looking at the stuff didn't occasionally give me some joy, I would have Marie Kondo'd all this stuff years ago.

For anyone not wanting to deal with the bullshit that are digital console ownership/transfer processes (lol Nintendo and Sony), go for the PC route. Steam Deck is a whole console experience, except the storefront that powers it has been around for 20 years, it's not going anywhere soon, your past/future purchases will continue to work, and you can login from your account from anywhere (and also have a family sharing function if necessary).
