I sincerely doubt you hurt a wheel at 5-10 mph. There's a slight chance you might have knocked the car our of alignment, but it seems unlikely. If your tires are holding air and your car tracks straight, I wouldn't worry about it. The next time your car is in the shop, ask them to throw it on the alignment rack.

Where you might run into trouble is if the Catalytic converter has been replaced at any point. There are many third-party catalytic converters which are not California emissioms compliant.

I think this will only get OP into trouble if they want to move the car back to California. If they're buying a California car and want to keep it in the Northeast, I don't think there's any reason they'd get in trouble for having an aftermarket cat as long as it was legal in their state.

General Motors Driving Cycle

A complete driving cycle should perform diagnostics on all systems. A complete driving cycle can be done in under fifteen minutes.

To perform an OBDII Driving cycle do the following:

Cold Start. In order to be classified as a cold start the engine coolant temperature must be below 50°C (122°F) and within 6°C (11°F) of the ambient air temperature at startup. Do not leave the key on prior to the cold start or the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.
Idle. The engine must be run for two and a half minutes with the air conditioner on and rear defroster on. The more electrical load you can apply the better. This will test the O2 heater, Passive Air, Purge "No Flow", Misfire and if closed loop is achieved, Fuel Trim.
Accelerate. Turn off the air conditioner and all the other loads and apply half throttle until 88km/hr (55mph) is reached. During this time the Misfire, Fuel Trim, and Purge Flow diagnostics will be performed.
Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for 3 minutes. During this time the O2 response, air Intrusive, EGR, Purge, Misfire, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
Decelerate. Let off the accelerator pedal. Do not shift, touch the brake or clutch. It is important to let the vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 32km/hr (20 mph). During this time the EGR, Purge and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
Accelerate. Accelerate at 3/4 throttle until 88-96 km/hr (55-60mph). This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 3.
Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for five minutes. During this time, in addition to the diagnostics performed in step 4, the catalyst monitor diagnostics will be performed. If the catalyst is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5 complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst.
Decelerate. This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 5. Again, don't press the clutch or brakes or shift gears.

Annath posted:

I never really understood what alignment was and assumed that was something done when you bought new tires.

Alignment controls how well your tires are lined up with "forward" on your car. There are three degrees of freedom: toe, camber, and caster.

Toe controls whether the front of a wheel is pointed slightly in or out relative to forward.

Camber controls whether the top of a wheel is pointed in or out relative to straight up and down.

Caster rotates the wheel hub about the center of the wheel, like the front wheels of a shopping cart.

Your car is designed to operate with specific toe, camber, and caster angles, but they're adjustable to compensate for a little damage or bashing around your car might get. It's a good idea to get your alignment checked periodically. It can lead to tire wear or your car handling weird.

Rotating your tires means swapping them front to back and left to right. This balances wear between all four of your tires

Just judging by what I see, it looks like that tire has been under inflated and possibly suffering from too much toe in angle.

Then look at your local Craigslist / Facebook marketplace for the real poo poo rusted out ran when parked examples. The real number will fall somewhere in that range.

But, before I had "thirty bucks at harbor freight" kinda money, I put tens of thousands of miles on lug nuts I tightened by feel. On the other hand, a friend of mine had a wheel fall off his rx-7 on the interstate in rush hour traffic one day, so I know what improperly torqued lug bolts can cause. So:

Under what conditions are improperly torqued lug nuts/bolts most risky?

The 6-pin connector:

Some quick googling reveals that it's probably made by Tyco-AMP-TE Connectivity. I don't see good matches on the 964961-1 part number, but there are some things labelled 964960-1 that look very similar.

The 2-pin connector:

The fact that the 6pin connector has square holes while the 2 pin connector has cross-shaped holes makes me wonder if they're not made by different manufacturers.

I dunno what kind of car this is, but I just watched a youtube about a car catching fire and the reason was that the insulation had degraded in the wiring harness, because for those particular years (84-86) of that particular car the manufacturer experimented with a different type of wire insulation that was biodegradable. It was just falling apart by then. So based on that I would be a bit worried if the rest of the wiring looked like this.

It's a 2006 Porsche Cayenne. Adjacent wires look fine, weirdly enough. It's just the control wires for the panoramic sunroof that look like this. The next time I get a chance, I'll take a look at the main harness but I'm less concerned.

I'm about to head to my parents 3.5 hours away this afternoon and come back on Friday and they live in bumfuck nowhere with limited car repair options. Should I be worried? I don't mind taking the trip if it's just my AC that could go out but if it's my alternator or something like that I really don't want to be stuck their for extra time. What am I looking at?

Does the quantity of air coming through the vents change, or does it just get noticeably colder? Is your AC set to fresh air or recirculated air?

Though supposedly Civics are disposable starter cars, no? Are they intended to be scrapped rather than maintained or upgraded?

Important thing to note: a car isn't a PC. You can't swap a motor as easily as you can swap a graphics card. If you have, say, a 2014 Honda Civic, all the parts you could easily replace will be designed for a 2011-2014 Honda Civic. If you want to upgrade the suspension, you'll have to find companies that specifically make suspension parts for a 2011-2014 Civic. You can't decide you want Mercedes suspension and a big Ford V8 and the all wheel drive system out of a Subaru WRX without doing significant custom fabrication and probably dropping six figures on a four figure car.

If you want a modular buy-it-for-life car, your best bet is something they made a billion of. Toyota Corolla or Ford F-150 or something like that. There will be parts available for decades.

Would it be tacky? Yes, but in a good way.

How expensive? Probably four figures. Less if you used black vinyl wrap rather than paint. You (and an artist?) might want to sit down with reference images to figure out exactly what a modern "Panda Camry" would look like (I think it would look better on the Corolla Hatchback, but you gotta work with what you have). Then find a vinyl installer who can do the work for you. You could install vinyl yourself, but it would be a try and try again process to get it looking right.

The struts are probably pretty straightforward. Be advised that suspension components tend to use larger fasteners and are more likely to be rusted / a real pain in the rear end unless you have big wrenches or an impact. Look up instructions / videos to see if you need to buy/rent/borrow any specialized tools.

Alignment is best left to the professionals, and is necessary basically whenever you make changes to your suspension.

Can you remove the spoiler as is? That would make it a lot easier to cut new pieces of tape.

I'd use goof-off to clean the residue, let it dry really well, and then use 3M VHB tape. If you can remove the spoiler, apply the tape to the spoiler with the backer still on it, use an x-acto knife to trim it neatly, and then remove the backer and stick the thing in place. If you can't, I'd slip as much tape as I could under the spoiler with the backer still in place (facing down toward the car), trim, and then remove the backer.

Any body shop should be able to tackle it if you don't feel comfortable.
