I played some shareware game in the early 90s that used shading in its sprites. Does that count as 3D?

You're a monster if you truly believe this. It's hard to recall exactly which but it was either Mario 64 or Ocarina that was my first 3D game. I still play them somewhat frequently and they hold up quite well. Also I'm at least 65% sure that this is true for everyone and it's not just nostalgia bias.
