This might be me misremembering about the manga, but the first episode of season 3 pacing seems to be very quick and feels rushed.

CH. 220 is just about everything I love about this series all wrapped up into 39 pages. I feel like the series is in the endgame and might wrap after this series of matches, and if the rest is like this chapter, I'd be ok with that.

Episode 1 and the first half of episode 2 had some kinda weird, off-kilter pacing, but they've pulled it together rather well by the latter half and episode 3, now. Chihayafuru's back in business

Yeah this season really did start off at a rushed pace. Ahhh I didn't realize this was back! Watched the first episode and I'm anxious to get back to watching the others that are out. Up to episode 3 and my favorite gag so far is Kana thinking the reader is being super intense and timing his readings while he's just tweeting. I won't stand for anything less than praise of my boy Hyoro, who is (despite his seemingly harsh personality) a genuinely nice, honorable, hard-working young man with a burning passion for improving his own Karuta skills while being a vital part of his highschool team. The only character in Chihayafuru I dislike is Taichi, which is kind of a pain in the rear end since he's the deuteragonist, but the rest of the cast being as wonderful as it is vastly makes up for that and more.

Episode 3 of this new season instantly became one of my favorite episodes of anime ever. I wonder just how many characters had speaking lines in just those 22 minutes. It was all the great parts of chihayafuru condensed into a single, screamingly tense match with a palpable sense of narrative history from every single person who piped in for 3 seconds to furrow their brow and talk about how cool karuta is

This show was the one that really got me into anime for "real" beyond like DBZ, and I didn't notice anything about Arata's speech watching for the first time. Then after getting into anime and weeb stuff I started learning Japanese and getting a lot more exposure to it. I rewatched season 2 a couple months ago in preparation, and holy poo poo the dude has a comically pronounced accent that is like nothing I've heard anywhere else. I kinda love listening to it
