Has MIT’s Stata Center been posted? I don’t recall seeing it, but it was designed by thread favourite Frank Gehry.

The view from the street is not great. Let’s step inside and check out the courtyard.

The best thing is when they put in a subway and rich neighborhoods actively don't want access to it, because they all have cars, and if the subway were there then those people might have an easier way into their fancy urban enclave. DC has a couple spots like this, it owns.

this building looked like a cheap styrofoam prop and I'm glad it's dead

It really did. It reminds me of that time when the façade of the U.S. Supreme court building was being restored and the scaffolding was wrapped with a photograph of the building:

The University of Technology, Sydney, features a Frank Gehry building, and it’s bad, but it somehow manages to not be the ugliest building on campus (through no effort of its own):

Wait, what’s that in the upper right?

:barf:

Gehry’s building is still unparalleled on the inside, though:

The BBC put up an article today about postwar architecture:

As they point out most of the buildings in that list have been demolished or are about to be. The article includes old thread favourites like the Cumbernauld Town Centre and the Park Hill estate in Sheffield.

This article is missing a great Prince Charles quote: “You have to give this much to the Luftwaffe: when it knocked down our buildings, it didn’t replace them with anything more offensive than rubble.”

The biggest problem with college campuses is that they’re pitching to eighteen‐year‐olds. Eighteen‐year‐olds don’t have good taste in architecture.
