Hooray for sub LPs! Take S-38. Target rich environment and working torpedoes. Who care if you are driving a sub that was brand new when the Kaiser was still a thing? The P-boats are better defensively and are a little more surviveable but faulty torpedoes mean relying on deck gun kills and Japanese ships rarely travel alone. Upgrade later to an S or T fleet boat in a few months when they start to get a grip on some of the torpedo flaws.
