You Are A Elf posted:Which is weird because I think the Chinese Craftsman ratchets are miles above the last few years of the American-made ones. You wanna talk about sloppy action and slippage resulting in bloody knuckles? Those were the last few years of the American-made Craftsman ratchets. The new Chinese ratchets are pretty tits and seem to have better QC then when Danaher was making them. At least the ratchets are better; I can't speak for the rest of the tool line. I've split a couple sockets I bought there over the past few years. But yeah, still miles ahead of Harbor Freight. If it's something impossible to gently caress up, a bench vise or whatever, sure, doesn't matter where it comes from.

Now imagine that sound going on for hours without pause. That is the Depresscalator. I believe they are manufactured by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.

The difference between K-Mart and Goodwill is that Goodwill tends to take their unsellable poo poo and stick it in ONE place where people can buy it by the pound. IV8 would know this as "Oddie Blvd". A main K-Mart that is less than 10 miles from their primary west coast warehouse isn't more than two blocks away from that Goodwill, on the opposite side of the street. I went into that K-Mart in the mid-90s looking for a belt, a clock radio, and a desk fan. I left with nothing, as they had none of the above.

You can get burgled, high, stabbed, then raped. Murder is more of a "Far Sparks" thing these days.

ThirdPartyView posted:So, who is the next major retailer that will sink? K-Mart/Sears? J.C. Penneys? While I'm sure Sears/Kmart will dissolve first, Penney's is a very close second. After all, in their attempt to revamp a few years ago, Penney's brought in a brand from Canada called Joe Fresh. For those not familiar with the brand, it is primarily sold at the Real Canadian Superstore, which is Canada's equivalent to Walmart/Fred Meyers. When your company is trying revamp by bringing in a grocery store/big box clothing brand from Canada, you're on death watch in my book.

I can't think of a scheme where dumping real Tide into generic buckets is better than just selling it as is. One of the keys to the phenomenon is that it's just detergent and you can sell it openly. I bet what they're selling is a bulk generic, but one that is identical to Tide and produced on the same factory line.

Kmart is one of the few places I can get decent socks for a larger sized foot. Kohls, Walmart, and Target only carry socks that go up a recommended foot of size 8-12. If any of them bring in larger sized socks they sell them at $30 for six pairs while Kmart has the same brand for $10. It is weird trying to get tall sized clothing in my area as most stores seem to order in a supply once and forget to reorder to have constant stock. Outside of ordering things online, the Kmart near me is the only place I can get clothing which is not tissue paper thin like Kohls tries to sell.

I went to Sears for the first time in years a few weeks ago and it was bizarre. The store looked like some discount warehouse where they bought poo poo that didn't sell at other stores. The clothing racks are all large circular racks with a mix of styles, sizes, seasons. Kids jackets were on the same rack as adults shorts. Several sections of the store were just completely empty or has a few racks. No signage other than big yellow banners that said clearance. Not an employee in sight. This store isn't one of the ones closing either. Reading this thread, it all makes sense now.

gnarlyhotep posted:Is K-Mart still even a viable business these days? I think if we knew the answer we'd all be fat-paid, but I would guess the answer is that it certainly could be considering Wal-Mart and Target are profitable? Sears could be viable (who here didn't have parents that always called Sears to install boilers, dryer vents, etc.?) but certainly not in the "race to the bottom" manner Lampert seems to think will work. I know at the idea that some goon knows better than a literal billionaire but you have to differentiate yourself somehow; why buy anything from Sears if I can just go to Home Depot or Wal-Mart for the same abysmal customer service? At least with Home Depot and Wal-Mart you go in there expecting it. Sears used to be such a legit brand; it's crazy how quickly it became a joke almost overnight. Sad.

Its like an engineer that questions climate change, or a doctor who denies evolution.
