Tweak the brightness/contrast in any old image editor and you get colours much closer to the original. I only saw it as white/gold earlier, but I'm sitting in a darker room now and the "white" appears a much deeper blue and the "gold" is closer to black. It's all to do with how your brain interprets the colour information (which is there, as you can see in the image above) depending on the ambient light levels and colour temperature. Or something.
