Favorite STD story is the one in the Marine thread where a Marine spent weeks trying to pop dick warts thinking they were pimples. The IDC doc gave him some stripping thing that skinned his balls. All he needed was an ointment or something hahaha.

I would sooner chop my dick off than apply anything to it that was prescribed by a corpsman.

Camouflage uniforms and anything with subdued rank insignia should be no-salute situations. You're intentionally obscuring your shiny status, don't expect every person walking by to have laser salute-o-vision.

I once walked past a Seabee chief wearing the green NWUs (I was in a flight suit with a ball cap), and we just stared at each other awkwardly because neither of us had any idea where to look for rank insignia. He actually turned around, apologized, and saluted (very :chiefsay: ) and we had a laugh about it.

Working Rimpac with all the foreign military guys was even weirder. I just saluted if I saw three or more of anything (stripes, stars, bars, maple leaves, whatever).

I assume the "right" way is equivalent to a Navy guy shouting "HOOYAH SHIPMATE, FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS!"

That reminds me of a while back when all the right-wing fart sniffers got spun up over the president giving a half-assed salute while holding a coffee cup. Ignoring the fact that the president is a civilian who doesn't need to salute anybody (thanks, Reagan, for getting that started), I was thinking that if you followed someone around with a camera 24/7, you could get photos of anybody giving a goofy salute here or there. I know I've certainly had a few. It doesn't mean I hate America, it just means sometimes I was distracted or had something in the wrong hand.

Also, if there's no room on base, don't stay at the Pineapple Inn out in town.

I've been TAD there a few times and it was as bad as it looks (and smells) each time. A lot of the fighter guys that I talked to there led off with something along the lines of "you lucky motherfucker, you don't have to live here". I was talking with one guy about good places to go for dinner, and the high point was "well, there's a Chili's in town..."

Not to say there aren't some hidden gems to be found, but if there are, you're gonna have to dig for them.

The true measure of how hosed up SWO land is.

The only place I can think of in aviation where you sometimes get [verbally] abusive people is flight instructors. Everyone can remember That One rear end in a top hat who always yelled at you and made you feel like an idiot. And they don't get called out on it, since the targets are poor little ensigns who are just trying to make it to the next syllabus event. But I'd like to think that even a CO would get shitcanned pretty quick for the kind of physical incidents that you hear about from SWOs.

Well, like a lot of places, if you don't have a car, it's gonna suck. If you do have a car, you're an hour from Reno, and two hours from Lake Tahoe. If you feel like it, you can go skiiing/biking/hiking/whatever every single weekend, surrounded by the glory and grandeur of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Even by itself though, Fallon is way better than, say, Lemoore. I know that's not exactly high praise, but as long as you're not dead set on a banging night life scene it's actually not bad.

We had one guy who went UA, and we called his mom and told her that he'd be listed as a deserter if he wasn't back within 30 days. He showed up again on day 29. :v:

"Silver State Dining Facility" or whatever is the right side of the o-club building, but it's the all hands galley replacement. VN Pho is good Vietnamese. Azteca is good for burritos and other Mexican staples. Courtyard Cafe has good breakfast and lunch. And it's a bit farther west up highway 50, but Squeezy's is a little diner literally attached to the livestock exchange and it's got great, greasy diner fare.

And if you want all-you-can-eat sushi in the middle of the desert, look no further than The Wok on main street.

Speaking of ridiculously Joe Navy, that reminded me of this gem that I discovered through the POW a few weeks ago:

Navy Releases New Mobile Game

quote:

The Navy Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (NADAP) Office released a mobile game March 3 as part of the Keep What You've Earned campaign.

"Pier Pressure" was designed to promote responsible drinking among Sailors by incorporating real-life choices in an entertaining work-and-play scenario. The app also enables all Sailors to have important alcohol-related resources at their fingertips 24/7, including a blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator and local taxi search.

Quite possibly the saddest thing ever produced by the Navy. I genuinely wonder how many people have downloaded it non-ironically or without being told to by their chief.
