In an emergency, refrain from using road flares or other visibility aids. They let other motorists in on what you're up to, and you wouldn't want to give other drivers any clues about your next move, would you?

Use your indicators only at the moment of turning, leaving them on longer will only confuse other motorists who may think you were about to turn into the oncoming traffic or that wall on the other side of the road. If you are unsure, just don't use them at all and avoid the confusion entirely.

I use road flares to reheat my coffee rather than stop and take a break every few hours. It's well known that taking breaks means you make worse time.

If you're driving on the highway, get into the passing lane and line up with cars in the traveling lanes. This will keep people from breaking the speed limit by forcing them to stay behind you. The police will notice and may give you a medal for making the streets safer!

Do you drive a lovely car and wish you had a BMW? No problem! Just get on the motorway and drive in the BMW lane! Just by being there people will think your car must actually be a BMW, since other cars are not allowed in the BMW lane at any times.

quote:Some quick-lube shops, independent mechanics and car dealerships pressure car owners into replacing automotive fluids that still are perfectly fine. In some cases, this will mean draining the fluids… in others, they might recommend actually flushing the system out completely, cleaning out virtually every drop of the old fluid. In either case, these services can cost $70 to $150 or more apiece. Save money by not listening to your mechanic and avoid maintenance! Source

Going on a long trip? Don't want to pay outrageous rest stop prices for coffee? Just put a can of coffee granules in your coolant! Whenever you feel like a hot drink, just place your cup under the radiator, twist the petcock and enjoy the sweet, hot beverage your car worked hard to brew for you. Petcock.

Protip: your engine is most efficient at full throttle, so plant your foot and then use your left foot to press the brake to keep a steady speed. In addition to being the most efficient, it'll also be beneficial for properly bedding the brakes and making sure your car is running optimally.

Looking to unlock the real secret to getting hypermiling done right? Next time you're drafting a semi, simply ghost-ride the car long enough to chain yourself to the underride protection bar on the semi. If you want to save even more fuel, rather than speed-matching the semi on your cruise before ghost riding, simply accelerate and then coast, aiming to have your coast speed match the semi's speed when at optimal coupling distance. Start using this one simple trick and the oil companies will hate you.
