drat, spider: 4 is a horrifying royal rumble of all-star uniques in my current game. There's Arachne, Jorgun, Agnus and now Mara turned up and added 2 copies of himself, and a clone of me into the clusterfuck. I've almost got Jorgun down, and I think I can take Agnus 1-on-1, but I'm seriously considering just giving up on this and going to shoals and slime instead. Maybe after I'm max level I'll come back and money in the bank these mofos.

HOLY BALLS IM ALIVE, IM A TREE BUT IM ALIVE, shoals sucks, thank god tree can cast through engulf. Auto explore seems fine for normal levels, but in branch endings I usually move manually so I don't run straight into the end vault with my pants down.

I forgot what tab does, but yeah I figured there is no real reason to walk around manually, quite the contrary, you might end up stepping a bit closer to a monster you can't defeat. Also I only know the first levels and goblin mines.

Tab attacks the closest monster for you. Auto-explore is good because it stops you as soon as a monster comes into view whereas if you're walking around manually you might accidentally take a step or two too far, which can be all it takes to kill you off. You can even use it in branch ends if you magic map and exclude the vault entrances.

i keep getting aorund midgame (i.e. around lair runes) and then running into hella trouble, whereas i used to breeze thru this stuff generally. i think it's because i've gotten a lot better at surviving the early game (mostly knowing when to simply flee fights); previously i only did well when i was fortunate enough to find game-making gear early on. i guess its a good problem to have but it's frustrating to die more frequently after putting a couple hours into a char rather than throwing 15 mins into several chars before one sticks crawl psychology talk
