More likely its a shoutout since OrenOren did an LP that absolutely exploded in popularity on and off site. Mainly due to the fact that they actually translated the game as they went since at the time nobody official or not had done that.

Monster Hunter has really good status effects but for all of 3U I totally distrusted their effectiveness because I was so used to them being useless in other games.

In a more RPG game: Etrian Oddessey.
You live and die by status effects, buffs and binds.

Does developers trolling their former publishers count? Because I just came across this teaser for potential Mighty Number 9 DLC....

That's pretty much Zero exactly as he appears at the beginning of Mega Man Zero 2.

It's MMBN Bass/MMZ zero/MMX zero.

The best thing about that item required to find certain items in chests, is that it claims to give better stuff from chests, but for some gives you worse items for having it equipped. Of course then there's the fact that 90% of the chests you open are gonna have either 1-100 gil or a knot of rust anyways

Mind that's with the item equipped.
Usually its some random consumable or shop equipment.

The first three were pretty consistent but the fourth one was a gritty space gladiator game that excised most of the platforming and put Ratchet in a suit of armor to try and hide that you were a silly cartoon animal mascot.

This was a direct result of adventure game grognards complaining that part 1 was too easy, and also a pretty good illustration of how sometimes it's OK to ignore your fans when they complain on the internet.

Well the best thing that actually came out of deadlocked was the gameplay, it's control scheme was quickly adopted for everythingthat came after, and it's just plain better. As well as the actual game being a ton of fun, if you forget it was all instanced arena stuff.
They did quickly go back to form with the future games, though they never went grittier than, say, a pixar movie.

In the English translation for P4 at least, the script still uses the name you enter, and the voice acting pauses whenever the name appears in the subtitles.

They did the same with DQ8, with the only person directly adressing you by 'name' is Yangus.

And all he calls you is Guv.

The reasoning for that is that the Nocturne protag is being played by a player on autopilot, and if he notices youre immune to everything: he just nukes you with 9999 damage.
Also an interesting thing from the fight: that boss is immune/resists all elements in DDS except one, because it didnt exist in nocturne.

They only had a limited amount of respawns in Demon's Souls, same with Dark Souls 2 which brought back a lot of Demon's Souls ideas. Which only made me laugh more when people poo poo on it for every little thing, but would turn around and say Demon's Souls was the best of the three.

The best thing about the crystal lizards though, is that it didn't matter if you actually looted the items it dropped, if it died you were hosed and a lot of them were placed on or near ledges, just like in the two Dark Souls games. So not only was it really easy to fall to your death trying to kill it, but it was also very easy to kill it and watch as the ragdolling corpse falls away forever, taking your precious upgrade material with it.

Oh, another fun troll for Dark Souls are the Vagabond monsters. When people lost large amounts of souls or rare items sometimes they'd randomly spawn in other people's worlds as strange monsters called Vagabonds that would drop crazy amounts of souls and super rare items on death. Except the chance of ever seeing one, let alone managing to kill it before it vanished was so rare that until someone got screenshots of them, they were basically a playground rumor and people would just assume you hacked it if you said a strange monster showed up and dropped ten thousand souls or something.

The vagabonds dont actually drop anything rare at all.
They're just a small random occurence that happens, I think I've seen 2 or so the whole 100 some hours I played.

An actual troll in FO4:
You get to this automated bakery shop thats spouting out order numbers, you try talking and it tells you to await your number, theres a pile of claimed tickets behind the counter so it isnt much of a stretch to think the unclaimed order ticket is somewhere close by: and youd be right to think that, number 22 is on a bench in the same building.

So youd wait for the robot to slowly make its way up the numbers, ponderously and humorlessly announcing each number, only to stop at 21, announce its trying again from the beginning and start again from 12.

All i wanted was some fancy lads cakes.

Im fine with the songs but calling 4 the same as 3 based solely on that is really overblowing it.

In fact I have the radio off most times since the music actually made for FO4 is pretty good.

Then you reload and try on unknown difficulty.
And then you curse the gods of creation.

Unknown mode is where you have to play 100% correctly 100% of the time, exploiting every trick and move you have and you might just, just not get full party wiped in the middle of a 20 minute boss fight of an ostensibly combo driven action RPG.
You also have to have the most broken skills on the most broken weapons to stand a chance.
