Year of the Snake 04: Finale (with JossiRossi!) (Finished!) New Username, Improved Reliability, Same Old Pig Mask No Spoilers, Please (For The Two People Who Still Haven’t Played This) On August 14, 2012, Square-Enix took a massive risk and published a game that had been dropped by Activision-Blizzard as a waste of money. Starting out as a sequel to a failing franchise, passing through years of development, and coming out as something far different, we wound up with one of the most atmospheric and entertaining games of the year. Sleeping Dogs, United Front Games' love poem to Hong Kong, started life as a new title called Black Lotus before being changed to True Crime: Hong Kong under Activision-Blizzard. Announced in 2009, the game ran over budget and racked up development time, leading to Activision-Blizzard dropping it from their lineup in 2011 without having had much effort put into promoting it. Thankfully, the story doesn't end there, as Square Enix announced they had picked up the game only six months later. A quick name change later, as Activision still owned the rights to True Crime, and Square Enix began advertising a brand new game. Sleeping Dogs promised open world environments and flashy melee combat to go with a unique-for-gaming setting and a gritty undercover-cop story. Hype built quickly leading into August, and Sleeping Dogs released to critical praise and shot to the top ten of multiple best-seller lists worldwide. I aim to finish showing off why that is. Sleeping Dogs is still one of my favorite games, period. No other game of its type can boast the rich atmosphere backing up a well-written cop drama and a wonderfully entertaining combat system. Even the driving feels good, with cars having just enough weight to make them fun to drive without being obnoxiously heavy or light. Supported by quality, frequently-released DLC (including a number of free outfit packages and inexpensive mission packs, and a full-size story DLC with a Halloween theme) and a very well-done PC version, Sleeping Dogs carried its strengths forward, and United Front Games plans to release an online multiplayer spinoff titled Triad Wars in early 2015. This LP has been on my mind for far too long, and although life has intervened multiple times (most recently causing the LP to grind to a total halt when Rossi got a real job and I started college) I’m bringing it back now, around its unfortunate two-year anniversary, to finish the job. Rossi might have gone awei to the real world, but I’m not content to let the LP die. Let’s finish Sleeping Dogs, together! Didn’t you have a different username before? Yes I did, but then my wonderful boyfriend Trigramatic came up with this one as Episode List (Playlist) (Uncut Playlist) Video 1: That Pair of Legs Protruding From That Shutter (with JossiRossi) Bonus Video 1: Hazing Reversal Bonus Video 2: Lets Play Dressup Video 2: Relaxation (with JossiRossi) Gift "Art": Speedy Porky's Delivery (Thanks JossiRossi!) Characters The Player Wei Shen Undercover cop and Hong Kong native, Wei Shen has returned to his home after working and living in California to undertake a special assignment- infiltrate the Sun On Yee triads through his old connections, and bring down their leader, known as the Dragonhead. The Sun On Yee Triads The dragonhead. The chairman. The leader of the Sun On Yee triad, an intelligent and dangerous manipulator, and a strong outward proponent of honor and mutual respect within the triad. Deceased following the Wedding Massacre. "Pockmark" Cheung Red Pole in the Sun On Yee and Uncle Po's personal assistant and advisor, Cheung is extremely loyal and well-liked within the organization. He is the one to formally initiate Wei Shen and Jackie Ma into the Sun On Yee. "Broken Nose" Jiang Broken Nose Jiang is a rare, successful woman in the male-dominated Sun On Yee, having ascended to the position of Red Pole answering directly to Uncle Po. Fiercely intelligent and politically shrewd, Jiang clashes with her fellow Red Poles often and expresses the belief that the Sun On Yee should move out of the prostitution and porn industries, for both moral and financial reasons. Henry "Big Smile" Lee Big Smile Lee is a Red Pole in the Sun On Yee who has been consolidating his power for years, with most of his control being exerted in the triad's drug, pornography, and prostitution markets. This puts him at direct odds with Broken Nose Jiang, and the two express their contempt for one another during the political maneuvering around Two-Chin Tsao's appointment to Temporary Chairman. Lee was the guiding hand behind Dogeyes' attempt to capture the Water Street Gang's territory, and following The Wedding Massacre he immediately sent his personal assistant Ponytail to negotiate a takeover. Howard "Two-Chin" Tsao Two-Chin Tsao is a Red Pole in the Sun On Yee and the nephew of Uncle Po. While Po is in the hospital following The Wedding Massacre, Tsao is made temporary chairman through political maneuvering by Broken Nose Jiang. A notoriously bad gambler, Tsao nevertheless runs a highly successful gambling racket. Mrs. Chu Winston's mother, owner of the Golden Koi restaurant and a fearful person to cross. Mrs. Chu is rarely seen without her trusty meat cleaver, and is perhaps the only person outside of the upper echelons of the Triad that Winston (or Wei) is afraid of. Winston headed up the Water Street Gang as a red pole in the Sun On Yee, and had a heavy hand in Wei's rapid ascent through the ranks. Deceased following The Wedding Massacre. Childhood friend of Wei and low-ranking member of the Water Street Gang, Jackie provides Wei with a link to the Triads. He's eventually killed by Big Smile Lee's men in an effort to draw out and harm Wei. Sam was leader of a rival gang within the Sun On Yee and currently clashing with Winston's Water Street Gang. Was indirectly responsible for the death of Wei's sister through drug abuse, and was responsible for the events that led to The Wedding Massacre. Deceased via Wei and Mrs. Chu. Hong Kong Police Department Superintendent Thomas Pendrew Hardline Superintendent of the Hong Kong Police Department and personal overseer of the undercover operation to take down the Sun On Yee, Pendrew is the man who first chooses Wei Shen for the job. Inspector Jade Teng Jade Teng is a lead investigator in the HKPD, and is responsible for investigating drug rackets and gang violence among other criminal activities. Reluctantly at first, she has begun to involve Wei more intimately with her case files. Raymond Mak Raymond is an HKPD officer assigned the difficult task of working with Wei as his handler. To that end, he meets with Wei semi-regularly to debrief him and evaluate his psychological state. Mostly shown through expository dialogue and Police Documents, Charles Ho was Wei Shen's predecessor in the effort to infiltrate the Sun On Yee. A talented undercover cop himself, Ho was ultimately discovered by Conroy Wu when he refused to kill for the Triads, leading to his capture. He was later found in a coffin, buried alive under six feet of sand. An autopsy report also showed that before dying of asphyxiation, Ho was tortured, evidenced by multiple incisions and drill holes across his body, multiple broken fingers and toes, and a missing eyeball. His body's location was provided to the HKPD anonymously. Police Documents To be updated as I transcribe them. All links point to a tumblr blog for offsite hosting so that my post isn't insanely long. SFPD File - Biographical Notes, Wei Shen Fridurmus fucked around with this message at 16:41 on Apr 9, 2015 |

So great! I'm glad to get in on the ground floor of this revival (I started following late so I just lurked) because this LP is hilarious and got me into what I now consider my favorite game. Do you have plans to do the extra content? When the thread was lax, I was tempted to ask if I could do YotS just as filler... but then life happened to me, ugh.

I cleared through Medical, and the audio gets fixed after a bit (it'd been actual ages since I seriously streamed,) so if anyone's interested I can post the links in the thread. Rossi and I also have a plan for some secondary content, although we haven't gotten it up and running yet.

This kind of infestation can take generations to remove and will almost certainly ensure a sad an untimely end for the current one. Every piece must be in its place to keep the demons back, or all (literal) hell will break forth and flood through the doorway. What I'm trying to say is that Feng Shui is weird. Smash all the pots.

In response I've uploaded another chunk of A:I for the day and set up three of them for tomorrow, along with Sleeping Dogs 26, and I'm planning to stream some tomorrow when I won't be totally screwing myself out of sleep prior to school.
