What red did you use on those Blood Angels? It is the perfect 2nd ed shade.

Back then it would have been
Mechrite Red, then layered with Blood Red. (airbrushed on the dread)

Highlighted with BA Orange and then Vomit Brown.

For the captain there was a Baal Red glaze done before the top highlight to get that proper deep red. Then a real high top white highlight to make it look shiny

The reds are basically unchanged so you can swap all those for the new colours no probs - as in the librarian shoulders and gun

Oh god it's been so long since painting them. :negative:

GW Snot green for the armor. I don't think I washed it or anything. Snot green + GW golden yellow + P3 Menoth White Highlight for highlights. Mix in more as you go, you know the drill.

I think the skin was just Codex Grey given several heavy washes of Badab Black or Nuln Oil. Highlights with the grey again, and I probably mixed in some Astronomican Grey too.

IIRC Warpstone Glow is a perfect match for old Snot Green.

Hope that helps!

Nice one, cheers dude

No, its fairly simple. I kept the backpack off for painting, and kept the arm/weapon/cloak piece seperate till the end too.

Can we get Tamiya Clear Red in the OP? It's the go-to best option for blood used by basically all pro painters.

Why when Blood for the Blood God is much better?

ah ok, I've not seen that yet but I'll take your word for it

Maybe mixing it up with some 'ardcoat would help, or glossing after its dried, but that kinda defeats the point of it being pre-mixed and easy

Yep most of the time I just use tap water, and I've never worried about ratios much either. Just blop in a bit more water with a brush till it sprays good

I'll only bust out the fancy stuff ( a huge bottle of IPA I got from a chemist) for metallics.

First time doing a proper colour fade/blend and it turned out good. Learning with a 3 colour blend on 7 different tentacles with lots of really inaccessible bits was probably not the best call though

Got better at it as I went along though and I can see how I can improve it next time which is always useful

OK so what are the preferred best use paints? Maybe some paint picking suggestions could go in the OP by purpose?

If you have over 200 paints already I'd say recommendations for more is the last thing you need. This is a hobby that quite often encourages more spending to improve where its really not needed. Practice more instead of spending more

I don't work in a lab, though. I sometimes needed to use the back end of a paint brush handle to stir a paint pot and that was only if the paint was very old. I've been sitting at a painting table for a few hours and paint that was completely mixed became unusable again since earlier in the session.

He means a little jobby you stick in the pot to help it mix. A lump of something that wont react with the paint. I use small lumps of resin left over from models personally, others use BB pellets, some use beads. As long as its not going to rust or whatever, just stick something small and lumpy in there

And I love the green and purple inks (?) you're got going on in there, he's still grey but interesting.

Yeah all the shading was done with a blue wash, the slight green comes from using Karak Stone(?) ( the new K Khaki) as a highlight mix for the under cloak. The main cloak used Dawnstone. Same base colour but it made them different enough to contrast each other.

Scorched brown/Rhinox hide , small highlight of whatever your highlight colour is, small bit of silver in the middle if it's a large chip

Works on pretty much any paint scheme

Carefully

But really that means you're putting too much on at once. You need to build up lots of thin layers in small amounts

When its that thin it should be drying within a few seconds, so building up the layers wont take long

Using a medium other than water can help, but honestly water is fine
