I just got into the New York, and without the range upgrade it is pure hell. I only have 4 games in it so far, but they have all ended with me being burned to the waterline by endless HE coming from cruisers who out range me and go faster. As soon as I get spotted (by fighters or whatever) its just incessant bombardment I can't respond to.
