Edit: Also, I maintain some guy on your team was using the mod. Consistent hits on a zig zagging BB at max range...


E2: Does anyone know how Damage control actually works? I used it twice in a row for less than 1k HP repair despite missing over 20k HP on my ship. Other times, it heals 1/5th your HP. To me :iiam: and I wouldn't mind some schooling.

This poo poo has happened every game so far. CV's seem like they might be interesting, but it's hard to stretch your legs and have fun with them like this.

Edit: ↓ I got right away that the whole fighter load CV thing is useless. I'm just sad that the people who run this don't see it as a useless thing, and when they get to lock down some sap like me in his carrier, they'll feel accomplished and justified to do it again.

You need to outsmart your opponent, which is quite frankly not that hard. People in this game are dumb as poo poo. One of the things you can do, is separate your torpedo bombers. They don't HAVE to be on the same side of the map. Most people who play with a 3 fighter squade will keep 2 together on one side, and 1 on the other side. But as soon as they spot torpedo planes, they rush all fighters to it.

What you need to do is use one of your torpedo squadron as a decoy. Engage his fighters with your 1 fighter. Keep in mind, you WILL lose that battle. But the point is not to win it. Its to keep one or more of his fighter squads busy. If you're lucky, your decoy torpedo planes will be able to launch a few torpedoes before being shot down. If not, it really doesn't matter because he's the decoy. try and use your remaining torpedo squad (hopefully on the other side of the map) to do the best drat torpedo run you can.

Also, remember that allied cruisers are your friend (especially in higher tiers) thanks to their AA. Use your decoy torpedo planes to drag his fighters as close as possible to your allied cruisers and engage them there with your 1 fighter squad. You will still lose, but you will definitely make him think twice about following your planes anywhere.

CV really are not that hard. It just takes a bit of planning, being able to outsmart another guy and a little bit of luck.

Also, hang in there... The Langley is the worst carrier and every other carrier you will have is an improvement on the last one. Except maybe the ranger... I liked it, but people seem to bitch about it a lot.

Also if it makes you feel better fighter load CVs are useless and bad and unhelpful to the team the vast majority of the time. The only times they come out ahead of a regular plane load is if they manage to neuter two enemy carriers by themselves (they never do).



It reminds me of a game I played in my lexington vs 2 Rangers. Both rangers were fighter fit and never even came close to slow me down. I think I had something like 24 torpedo hits in that match. Talk about them being loving useless.

New griefing tactic.. Willing putting yourself in the path of friendly torpedoes to see a destroyer or cruiser go down in flames with you.

On another note, The Saipan is being removed and they are putting the independance in its place instead. I don't remember the Saipan much, but I don't think it was a bad carrier, was it? They added the Bogue to fill the spot of the independance.. I have literally never heard of that carrier before and I am too tired to use my google-fu. Does anyone have any info regarding this ship?

It was still 6 fighters to my 2. All they really had to do was assigned 2 fighters to each of my fighters, and use the remaining 2 to go after my torpedo planes. They completely failed at that which was the entire purpose of them being fighter fit.

Holy gently caress, I need to learn to screen pic my chat more often.

I playing in my Aoba, which a ship I loving hate cuz I can't stand japanese ships. I'm focusing on some cleveland and don't notice than a friendly aoba cuts me off. So I plow right into it without really noticing. At that point, he decided to unload his torpedoes on me and completely miss. As we disengage, he shoots at me using his turrets. I replied by sinking his rear end with one torpedo salvo. A friendly cleveland nearby thinks I'm the aggressor so starts shooting at me. Cuz you know, there's not enough people on the red team, might as well add more enemies.

I sunk his rear end too, but end up sinking at the same time. Guy starts bitching at me in chat, completely unable to understand that I was only retaliating to both their stupid rear end. His whole line of insult can be resumed to this: Buy a life. Get a girlfriend.

This is just loving sad. If you're going to go attack someone, don't loving cry over chat if he sinks you and for the love of god.. Learn better insults.

First and foremost, try not to engage the enemy fighters if the enemy carrier is even 1 tier higher than you. He will gently caress you up. I recommend luring the enemy over friendly cruisers and engage there.

Use alt to manually drop your torpedoes. It allows you to drop them a lot closer to the ship you are trying to sink, making it much harder for them to dodge. Its not fool proof, but it is a lot better than simply clicking on the guy and waiting for the planes to do their jobs.

Always be on the move. If a BB spots you and you are not moving, you will be sleeping with the fishes.

Always assume your team sucks and will do absolutely nothing to help you. More often than not, they will leave huge gaps that allows enemy DD to go right up to you and gently caress up your day. IF you are lucky, one friendly DD might come and kill the one that just sank you, but odds are he will not be there in time to save your rear end.

More importantly than anything: Pay attention to what goes on in the map. If one of those big gaps open and a DD comes right up to you, its not just your team's fault. Its your fault for not getting the gently caress away from that position.

Once in a while, sink a friendly ship. It'll make you feel better. Don't forget to tell the guy in chat that its his fault. We love chat porn.

First match in my Lexington today. Other carrier on my team is a ranger. I see his planes take off and then just.... fly around doing nothing. One of the enemy carrier on the other team managed to send all of his fighters and torp bombers straight to us. While I attempted to fight them off, the other guy did nothing. So being a nice guy, I warned him that i'd sink his rear end myself if he didn't do something soon.

No reply.. Planes still just flying around him, so I decided to launch a few torps at him. 7 torps hit and sunk him. That is when the guy gets all spergy in chat, bitching and all. I excused myself saying I was really bad at math and was trying to solve a problem: If a carrier moves in a direction at a specific speed, and torpedoes moves towards it at a different speed. Will they meet?

I might get reported. :ohdear:

According to the enemy team I just played against, it seems that the ocean map actually requires skills. In their little minds, going in a straight line while following your fleet without having to worry where you're going requires more skills than maps with islands, in which you actually have to pay attention to what is around you.

Its really loving sad. Unless I am actually missing something, how can someone actually think that? Please, someone reassure me and tell me the majority of players do not actually believe this poo poo.

One of the thing that is cool about carriers is that, much like every other ships, they have engine and can move. The higher tiers are also very fast in a straight line and even destroyers will have trouble catching up to you. For example, the Lexington has a speed of 34 knots. (down to 23 in a tight turn).

I recommend hiding somewhere behind an island in a position that will allow you to just gun it if you notice a DD getting through your line.

Also, never underestimate your secondaries. A 3/4 dead destroyer managed to break through and close on me yesterday. I managed to avoid most of his torpedoes and cheered when my secondaries finished him off before he could reload.

I think its a matter of opinion. I like CV's for the RTS side of things. When you have a competent carrier player on the enemy team, it makes it even better. There are games in which I'm having trouble breaking through with my torpedo bombers because the other carrier is just that competent with his fighters. It can be very challending when you're facing two rangers, both equipped with fighters only.

You also have to face weird choices when all the planes meet up. Do you try and kill enemy torpedo bombers with your fighters to save friendly ships, or do you use your fighters to kill his fighters so that your torpedo bombers are unimpeded? Basically, its just a completely different type of game play. I can see why people may not like it tho, but it sure as hell beats the poo poo out of playing artillery in W.o.T.

Carriers have a funny place in this game. People call them sky cancer and useless, but will literally ignore everything else around them for the remote chance of killing a carrier player. I've often seen DD's (even cruisers) try to chase me (or other carriers) at the expense of everything else, only to end up being sunk without ever reaching their goal or retaliating against whoever sunk them.

I think one of the fundamental problems with carriers is that they're completely hit and miss. Any other ship can afford to miss often during the course of the map and still end up doing a lot of damage. The carrier does not have this luxury. Every miss means being completely useless for at least 3 or 4 minutes of gameplay while waiting for the planes to come back. In most games, a carrier player will get to do 2 torpedo runs. 3 at the most. My personal best was 4 but I took extreme risks by following the fleet and being in range of being spotted and shot at.

A possible solution would be to increase the speed at which planes travel, while lowering the damage that torpedo bombers does. I'd rather do less damage per hit, but increase the amount of times my planes get to do a sortie.

I wonder how much of a speed bonus tho. The other day I sent my fighters to try and catch up to some torpedo bombers that had just dropped their load. Even though my fighters were relatively close, it took them more than lf the map to actually catch up and start shooting. I fear that if they increase the speed too much after the torpedoes are dropped, fighters may be unable to catch the torpedo bombers in a reasonable amount of time.

I don't really like this idea. First of all, historically, bombers are slower than fighter. They tend to be a bit bigger and heavier, and made to carry weight. Fighters are meant for speed. That is their thing. Secondly, the map is big enough and gaps in spotting coverage wide enough that fighters are often out of position to intercept. Those choices you are mentioning are already present in the game.

Fighters need to be fast enough that they can catch torpedo bombers to be able to intercept them or catch them after they drop their load. But they can't be so fast that it would guarantee the torpedo bomber's demise. They also need to be able to get away if the fighters are too far away. A good balance must be found, and I think we're not quite there yet.

The thing is, you don't need to use it. Thanks to Orange Juche, we are now aware of a function on your keyboard called: The Alt key.

Its awesome, gives you a lot of information and will allow you to land a lot of shots you normally wouldn't. Give it a try, it certainly helped me and I suck at shooting guns.

There is no in game consequence atm. However, if the player reports you, wargamming may choose to ban you. Remember, this is closed beta... I'd say who cares. Sink whoever you want and claim you needed to test something out.

gently caress! Sometimes I just can't loving understand this RNG bullshit. I can never hit anything long range with m y Nagato. Its ridiculous. Its not that I have bad aim or anything like that. If it was a matter of sucking at aiming, I wouldn't care as much. But when every single fuckign shot is perfectly aimed for the middle of the ship, but all god drat shells hit water on both sides of the ship its just infuriating. What pisses me off the most is when I'm fighting another Nagato at long range, and while my shots just land on both side, his hit non-stop.

I admit to have made such accusation a few times. When you're zigzagging and changing your speed multiple times, and people are still hitting you with impressive accuracy taking away big chunks of your HP, its hard to tell yourself that the guy is just that good. When your day is already going lovely and your gaming doesn't relax you, it leaves little options.

Teamkilling, or yelling HAX!!! Teamkilling too often might get you banned, so whinning like a little bitch becomes much more reasonable and acceptable.

I've decided to try something with my carrier and so far it seems to be working.

I move in a position that will definitely get me spotted, but forces people to run up to me to kill me. So many people take the bait, that it allows for my team to easily pull off a win by capping because people would rather kill a carrier than win the match.

I've done it a few times now, and every time, the guys chasing me could have turned around and salvaged the game, but they never do. Its been a win every single time I've done it, and every time its with half of my team making it to the cap almost unoposed. Its ridiculous how people have no sense of priority.

The downside is that I get killed more often, but who cares about survival rate really? Pubbies are loving dumb.

One of the thing that kind of annoys me about this game as a carrier player:

You launch your planes. They take a bazillion years to reach your target. You manual aim a perfect run and watch with excitement as your torpedoes speed towards a battleship and you just know all 6/12 torpedoes are gonna hit and wreck the poo poo out of him. Then juuust before your torpedo hits, someone else lands an awesome citadel hit and sinks the ship, making your entire effort and the last 5 minutes of your gameplay an entire waste of time.

My latest match, I told my team I would do this right at the start. Near the end of the match, a few teammates were capping. Two enemy cruiser were in a perfect position to shoot those capping, but also in a perfect position to shoot me. Guess who they choose to shoot at?

I truly do not understand this attitude. What is it with pubbies wanting to kill carriers so badly that they would rather do so at the cost of the entire match.

The funniest thing about this is that in all the match I've done this, none of them managed to sink me.

A little while ago I mentioned I had an extra code for the closed beta. I don't know if still valid but it seems I really don't need it. Who was next on the list to receive it? I can't find the post.

E: I went back 25 pages and could not find the latest update for the list of people who want to have keys. I do not guarante that this key still works, but if someone wants it.. just ask in here.

If possible, I'd like to give it to someone who has seen what the game looks like and is interested in playing until open beta hits. I would not want to waste it on someone who tries the game a few times and gives up.

Claiming it might be CBT only is just a marketing tactic to get pubbies to rush for the drat thing. Wargaming might get some more of my money, but its definitely not on stupid ships that I have never heard of before. These ships will be great at first and be awesome money makers. Then people will figure them out, other ships will be added and in the end its going to be the Lowe and Type59 all over again. No thank you. I might go for a premium account or something, but that is most likely it.

gently caress no! I enjoy playing carrier so much, its possibly the only class that is not going to get any free xp invested into it. I enjoy each of my carriers for as long as possible, including the Langley. I don't know wtf is wrong with me...
