False alarm, my sewage pipe was not connected to the pipe that goes into town.

Traffic thing is definitely fixable. I haven;t seen it yet, but it's like they sit in one lane when others are available.

Yeah.

You need to be generous with the wider roads imo. Also elevated roads ftw.

Being able to expand your city is so cool. I like doing specialised industry but I wish there was more.

it's good and makes you think more about how you build.

I haven't come across that yet. I'm really conservative with how I expand tho and the game feels a little easy.

Knuc U Kinte

I never feel like I've had to really mull over plopping down services either. If I have cash and there are areas missing out I just build it.

I like to put my water pumping station downstream of my sewage pipes and feed turds to my citizens.

Knuc U Kinte

I still haven't seen that thing the Kotaku guy is complaining baout. I do have regular traffic problems though. I always have trouble with congestion at the initial highway later on in the game.

Knuc U Kinte

I keep having to restart because I don;t really plan and everything looks like poo poo even though I'm making barrels of money.

Knuc U Kinte

Specialising is way too good. I made forestry and the only pollution I have in my industrial district is the Landfill.

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

What do y'all do with the starting intersection? I hate not having highways available to make it look good. Should I just ignore it until I get highways?

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

I feel it's a really good idea to just leave lots of huge gaps everywhere for highways and stuff later on.

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

Industry definitely needs a good highway system.

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

I think my problem with traffic was I was over thinking highways and trying to make elevated ones even though I live in New Zealand and we don't have them. I made regular normal human ones that are flat and started using the pre built intersections and I think my problems are solved.

Also, Wormskull, you can drain rivers dry. If you put a pump below a dam it drains even faster.

It's the traffic dude. Merging differently sized (in terms of number of lanes) roads together creates traffic lights and backs everything up.

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

That's the secret to this game. Park all your industry by the initial interchange, and connect everything by a uniformly sized road that has few intersections.

Here's my city before I ruin it with a disgusting highway:

It's so freaking hard to get a good highway system. I figured out before that it's best to just keep the actual highway at ground level, but the custom map I'm using has an elevated highway at the beginning so I carried on and made a spaghetti monstrosity.

Knuc U Kinte
Aug 17, 2004

Having elevated highways just adds another possibility for ugliness when it comes to off/onramps. I think it's easier to just make bridges over the highways with regular roads and then get fancy with the off ramps if you need to.

Also how many windmills should I use in the beginning. I always plop down like 8 and the run out of money and I haven't unlocked loans yet and I'm hosed.

You can tell from the aerial screenshot, but my city is in a really mountainous map. Check the workshop because I forget what it's called.

Knuc U Kinte

I tried out the mars map and the guy gives you only access to a lake at the start. It's in the only green area of the map that you might want to make look nice later on, but you have to permanently scar it with turds because there is no water flow.

I finalyl bothered to get a city to 20k pop without abandoning it. It's on some really hilly map with not much buildable land so my highway and offramps are insane monstrosities.
