I started playing civ 5 with my friend recently and I don't play enough of those kinds of games to know that it's bad apparently. I'd be ok with civ in space. I like conquering countries and renaming their cities to stuff like "childpornsburg" "cum city" etc. edit: Idea for humorous city name: tanesville? I followed the MOO3 development. The studio that made it was like a store-brand John Romero. That said, I like the job Fraxis did rebooting XCOM, so maybe they can do the same for Master of Orion.

You end up creating a voice for each of the alien races through their vocabulary (it's hard to forget the Orz and *happy campers*) that ends up being better than whatever they ended up voice-acting. Although I do have to say I enjoy how they decided to voice Fwiffo.

It actually does suck because it's nowhere near as good as civ4 in terms of its design. But it spouts nerd quotes so it's good right. Also Sid Meier's Starships is kinda like pirates but instead of being a free wheeling trading game the metagame is closer to 4x. I thought it kinda sucked though cause the tactical battles weren't very interesting.

Alpha Centari is a crappy broken game that gets a 'pass' because it took the ideas of civ2 and built on them and was one of the earliest of its style of gameplay

the unit design thing was ok on paper but really limited in execution, the only real customization you actually get out of it is picking the two abilities otherwise you pick the best reactor, and then the best weapon if its an attacker or the best armor if its a defender, having both weapons and armor makes it cost a poo poo ton to build
